got a 550 83 seca last year, and thanks to the po Ive had some rough time getting it all running right. tank was rusted and on his "look it works, really" start up flooded the carbs with rust (stupid po). What Im trying to find out is if there are generic products out there for the carbs. Because one look on ebay for a carb boot (manifold, holder, rubber) and you find one for $50 or a set for $100. were I found a generic mikuni one for $9 (not the proper size though). and carb rebuild kits $27 and I found generic mikuni for $7 (again wrong size). There have to be places that sell these parts were you dont have to look for xj (marked up in price to suit your motorcycle needs) specific parts. I put the links up cause maybe some one can benefit from it. I need help I just cant afford $200 to replace this stuff. Oh found colortune for cheep, great tool.

Our resident parts source chacal has virtually everything you will ever imagine needing, IN STOCK, at prices generally well below what you'll find elsewhere. Look here: http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=14561.html

Add your bike details to your sig. I just answered your other post with questions I wouldn't have needed to ask...

As for the rubber intake manifolds, don't assume those horrible cracks mean anything. Those things will develop some absolutely hideous looking cracks that don't go all the way through. As long as the manifolds are still pliable just pack the cracks with black adhesive RTV. It's really easy to snap off manifold bolts so only replace if absolutely necessary.

One note on "generic" parts as you were asking about. There ARE generic bits out there, but in a lot of cases they're not correct. Throttle shaft seals have a unique cross-section; the generic ones are not correct and won't work very well, the same for crappy float needle kits. There are also generic brake caliper kits out there that don't work right either.

e13design, i've finished stripping a 1982 650 seca of parts and have the four boots and securing rings. if they'll fit your 550 seca you're welcome to them for shipping costs and a few bucks. let me know, the parts listing on the yamaha site leads me to believe these will fit. the carbs on the 82' 650 seca are 32mm hitachis. let me know if you want them. scott shand ps: my seca is in my photo album in the gallery section under scottshand

    later days, scott

The carbs on a 550 Seca are 28mm Mikunis. Those manifolds won't fit.
