Hi gang! Just picked a new (to me) XJ700 Max (1986) and I LOVE IT!
Smooth, plenty of power, and pretty nice to look at! A little polish and elbow grease, and she'll look brand new!

Wow cleaned up nice - nice find

Welcome - spend some time looking around the site you will learn a ton. First purchase should be a manual - worth it's weight in gold. If you need parts PM Chacal on this site - he has just about everything. But most of all enjoy your new ride!

Beautiful Bike! Congrats! Are you sure she's not an '85 though? I didn't think the '86s got the circular tank badge. In any case, gorgeous bike!

I you do get the (ONLY) manual for the XJ700, get the XJ650 XJ750 80-84 Haynes book as well. The price is worth some of the clearer explinations and, better pictures that the XJ700N Shop Manual really lacks!! The three bikes are almost exactly the same. Our local parts guy chacal, I'm sure has the books at a reasonable price. But if you're a mechanicaly inclined person (I'm not) you might only need the only "offical" manual for the XJ700N put out by Yamaha.
    Nice looking bike!
    Good Luck
