what is the oil capacity for my 82 xj650 maxim?

    I was wondering what the oil capacity was for my 82 xj650 maxim with and without the filter change.

    I just did mine yesterday, with a new filter (people change oil w/out changing the filter?!?), and it was about 3.25 qts.



    HOWEVER, I have an aftermarket oil cooler, so yours will be a bit less. I believe it does say 2500 cubic cm. on the side of your oil reservoir, so that would lead me to a shade over 2.5 qts as a baseline to start with. I put in 2.5, started the bike & ran it for a minute (to fill the filter & cooler and check for leaks), let it sit for a few, then added oil until the level was correct.
