I just got my 1982 xj1100 running today! Thanks to some help here. I bought it last year after the guy hacked the main harness and removed some parts. I was able to put power to it today and it started right up and purred like a kitten and was smooth as any engine I have heard. I didn't even have to clean the carbs! Anyway I am happy about it.
The carburetor boots have the usual cracks and I will replace them this year.
I was thinking about what I could put on them to seal them until I get new ones. I think that I could use liquid wire insulation stuff. It should work to prevent leaks. What do you think? Have you used anything on you boots that worked?
    Thanks

Look for a post that Fitz did. I think he used RTV sealant, but I'm not 100% sure.

Black Perm-a-tex should do the trick until you can get some new boots. You can find it at fine automotive retailers near you!!

Yep; high-temp black RTV gasket maker. Others have had good results with liquid electrical tape too.
