Carb flooding question

    My original problem was that I was flooding either cylinder #2 or #3 when I first put my carbs back on. Figured the needle was sticking or something along those lines, so I pulled 'em off to do them right.

    Everything's clean, checked the float height dry, and now want to make sure the spec is right. Got a funnel and locked the carbs lightly in a vice, used a level at the top to make sure I got all of the carbs damn close to level, and started to fill them with fuel to bring the carb floats up so I can check them.

    Here's my problem. I'm flooding still. I have fuel coming out of a little port on the airbox side of the carbs. I don't know if this signifies a bad float adjustment or what. Any sense of direction on this would be appreciated.

    Attaching a pic of the carb. Not the right carb section, but it was the only pic that came out half decent. What is this port used for? Choke?

    Make sure the o-rings on the float valves are good. Those look like Mukuni's and everyone I have seen the 0-rings on the float valves are shrunk up. Take the seat out and see if they will just pull right out with little or no resistance. If the seats are not sealing around the outside you will be flooding all the time.

    That's the main AIR jet............quite obviously, fuel should not be coming out of it!

    Your float needles are still stuck, or the fuel level is set way to high, or the o-rings that seal the float needle valve seats are deteriorated really, really badly.........

    It's not the needles stuck, I know that. Polished the bores up really good, and even now I can still move the needles up and down with a small screwdriver.

    I doubt it's the float levels set way too high. Followed the directions to a tee, and used a digital mic to adjust them. All of them are the same, but it's just this one bowl that I think is flooding.

    So, that leaves the o-rings. I'm a little confused though. Where are the o-rings I should be looking at? I could be way off, but when I took apart the main body, I didn't see any o-rings at all, just a brass pin with a hole in it in which the needle seated. Should there be o-rings around that brass pin?

    A little bit of clarification is due. I took my carbs to go get cleaned, but before I did, I pulled all of the jets. When I got there, the tech who worked on cleaning up my carbs knocked those pins I was just talking about out. When I got my carbs back, he forgot to give me the pins. No big deal, I went and made a separate trip out there to get them, and since they were professional enough about everything else, I didn't whine about it.

    I know he didn't dunk the whole carbs, just really got the bodies good. He was the one that told me that there are some o-rings on the throttle shaft that can get pretty screwed up if the whole carbs got done. But those were the only set of o-rings he mentioned. And when I got back the pins, they didn't have o-rings on them.

    Just looked in the book, see the float valve and the o-ring above it. I bet that's where my problem lies. Damn.

    the brass seat where the float pins seat into can be removed, all mine came out pretty easy, remove the floats and pins and wiggle the seats back and fourth and they should come out.
