Hey all, just a quick question. Will a progressive series 440 fit on my 1981 xj650 maxim? They are 11.5" so I know they will cause the bike to sit an inch lower in the rear, but I don't think that's a problem...right? I thought I read on here where someone used them with good results. Thanks in advance.

I think I might be asking the wrong question...The 440's I am looking at are from a guy locally. He originally bought them for his Road King Classic but didn't like them and switched back to air shocks. So I guess I am wondering if there are different models of 440's. I have read a couple of threads about these shocks but don't really know jack.

shocks or shocks and springs? you can read up on the shocks on their website but if the springs are for a Harley their probably way to stiff for you
and your springs will be too long for them

They will fit, physically, no problem... You'll just need to change the metal sleeves in the bushings to fit your studs. I've got 440's on my MaximX and so far, so good. The spring rates on the ones I have are heavier than stock but not as heavy as the full-dress HD ones. They give a nice, solid ride and I like to lower back end.

If it's a local seller, see if he'll let you swap them onto your bike for a test drive.
