    Hello all

Recently after a mc cycle accident leaving me dry on motorcycles, I picked up a 1985 Maxim in excellent condition, with 11k on the clock today. I purchased it from the original owner. I rode my friends xj650, and I was inlove with the bike. I just had to have one. Anyway see you guys around one the forum!

    Re: New 85 maxim-X 700cc

Don't want to dissapoint you but the bike in the pic is NOT an X just the xj700n. Still a very good looking bike for sure. But knowing the difference will make a huge difference in ordering any motor components as very few things interchange motorwise. Oh and welcome aboard

Hell yeah thats in beautiful condition. I'm jealous! Mine was purple when I got it and it looked like it sat in a pond for a year!
A Maxim X would be Badass, but dont underestimate the XJ700N. Strong, powerful, and absolutely gorgeous, this baby'll turn heads
That red is pretty hot for that bike too. ~whistle~

Picture is a little blurry, but it looks like the engine is super clean and polished. The paint looks good too. Congrats!

    Re: New 85 maxim-X 700cc

few chips here and there. I want to find the color, so I can get new paint to match. I'm a perfectionist lol. I thought it was the XJ700X, my bad. It's still only made 2 years regardless.... But anyway if anyone can get me a color code or something, so I can re-paint it over the winter, that would be nice. The paint is original and is about 8.5-10

Nice bike, glad you were able to find another XJ to replace the old one.

If that's the original red, it should be called scarlet red. Check on colorrite.com. They have paint mixed to OEM colors.

Just going from the pic, that red looks brighter than scarlet red though. Scarlet is a bit more toward maroon. Check-out the pics at www.maxim-x.com. There are some X's on there with the original scarlet red. That will at least give you a comparison.

Nice bike. One on ebay just like it. I don't believe there is going to be a paint code. Chacal (local forum parts guru) may have info on it though. I think I remember having something in the VIN, but not sure. My painter said he couldn't find one. The main differences between the maxim x and regular maxim is cosmetic and internal. Probably the biggest difference is the maxim x has a five valve configuration, different carbs, is water cooled, has a more solid back rim and several other things. I've had both the x and regular maxims, and the regular maxim is quite well off vs the x. The 60-80 time if memory serves correctly actually fell on the regular maxim's side, but other performance stats all fell in the x's favor. Either way, nice find and welcome to probably the best forum on the internet. These folks are absolutely awesome!
