I am looking to download owners/parts manuals for my bike but I am unclear of what bike I have. PO still has the title (waiting to get it back from SOS) I am wondering if there is any other way to find out if I have a 650 G,J,LJ or RJ or does it matter. I have a 9 digit vin number will that tell me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I think I found it the Model ID number is 5N8 which tells me it's a 1982 XJ650 Maxim built for the USA and the serial number is after 000101 so the model name is XJ650J. Does that sound right?? I think you can find a cure for cancer on the web sit if you look long and hard enough!! Awesome site!!!

If it's an 82 then yes XJ650J is correct for a Maxim. Same bike I have - I love mine!

Best advice I can give you is take your time and do it right. Otherwise you will follow the path most of us (myself included) followed and do them 3 or 4 times.
