Ok, changed the plugs again there pretty black, here's the deal, my 650 seems to have decent power but not great, through first, second and third gears up to about 100kph but won't go over 130kph. in fourth and fifth gears it will climb to around 7000 rpm but struggles to go higher and doesn't seem to be generating any power as it does, there is plenty of throttle left at this point but as i twist nothing happens, the new plugs brought my top speed from 110 to 130kph so on payday I will change the last two boots and see what happens. any other suggestions would be great

the carbs where synced but I think the guy that did it may have screwed it up as it didn't really seem to change anything! it also seems to be running rich and only getting approx 25-30mpg which seems low compared to what I've seen here, I am going to make my own tools and try again but I don't have alot of time or money right now.

I was told that a sync problem would affect the idle and low end power more than the top end is that true?

Do a sync yourself man. You can make the tool for real cheap. Two glass bottles, some fuel line, and two rubber stoppers, bada bing bada boom got yourself a tool. I'll walk ya throught it if you want.
    Easy to use as well

It's the block off tool I need to get together but thank you for the offer once I get my tools together I will take you up on that, I really do love this bike but after buying it not running and still working on it so much I seem to be having problems getting motivated. I knew it was going to be alot of work but I was hoping I could also enjoy riding it to !! I'm just frustrated right now I'm sure it will pass.

Yes - sync/pilot tuning is basically what controls how smooth and powerful your idle and transition from idle to rolling into higher RPM.

It doesn't affect midrange or top end as much as it does the idle.

Mostly, the further you get from idle, the less effective they are - roughly.
Very complicated actually, but if you get it right with idle ... as long as you have proper jetting your top end revs should be golden.

Just be sure your carbs are clean as a whistle, especially where you can't SEE! :)
