What's the Red Line, and Max RPM on my 83 XJ900?

I bought the bike with an aftermarket tach, have no idea what red line really is.

The highest I dare go is around 13,000RPM. She really sounds like she is straining. My Commutes never go higher than 6,000RPM, and fast driving generally stays under 10,000.

Where is the factory red line?
    What is the factory max?

    OUCH.

I do believe all XJ's are 9400-9500 ish. I don't know the exact.

Definately don't think 13k is ok for any XJ though O_O

Someone else might chime in, but the stock tack on a 650 says
    ~9500.

Sorry, wasn't taking a pic of the tach, so there is glare.

I can almost guarantee you that the tach is not set correctly for a 4cyl engine. Unless the 900 is WAAAAY different than other xj engines it would blow into pieces long before 13k.

Idunno about blow to pieces I have not payed attention and rapped my X well past 10k and it is ok but I don't recommend doing that frequently. The red starts at 9500 on the X as well.

Theres a big difference between 10k and 13k. Do xjs have rev limiters? I am willing to bet that it would cut out around 10k or so

I have two threads going at the same time. One is regarding properly setting up my tach. Turns out it was reading x2 as high as actual readings.

I guess that means that while commuting, I drive at a max of 3000-4000RPM, while driving quick, I top out around 5000-6000RPM, and once or twice while really pushing the bike to my limits as an inexperienced rider I hit 6500RPM.
