I've got a stuck screw and I've read on this site that sometimes it's easiest to take the part to a shop and get them to extract it rather than fudging with it myself. How can I find these shops? What should I be looking on Google on Yellowpages for? Do you mean my local Yamaha dealer/service-garage?

If you don't feel comfortable even attempting it yourself, I'd say starting with your local dealer is a good thing... see what they say, and if they refer you to someone else.
Otherwise, most any machine shop can do it -- just call and ask - give them the specifics of what's stuck where, and they'll tell you if they can do it and how much it will cost

"machine shop" is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks.

I've been trying and will try a couple more tricks before taking it somewhere else...

Another question: Is the lid for the brake fluid reservoir depressed into the reservoir? I have one of the screws off, so could I try to rotate the entire lid counter-clockwise to get it off?

If thats a handle bar MC, then there is a rubber thingy (not gasket, more and more important) that would be ruined in the process. If the problem is the MC screws, they are a pretty simple drill out(just the head), remove the lid. Then a set of pliers can grab the remainder of the screw for removal

You can't "rotate" the lid, it has ridges that protrude into the M/C cavity; plus as mentioned above you will wreck the lid gasket/diaphragm.

I used the Craftsman "mini" screw extractor on mine and it worked like a charm.

Take a sharp centerpunch to the the screw about 3/4ths of the way to the outside and tap the punch to create a divot. Now take the same centerpunch and tap it at around a 45 degree angle and start to tap in the counterclockwise direction. Remember to only tap on the screw not the soft aluminum. This will sometimes break the screw loose enough so you can use a #2 phillips screwdriver and back it out.
That has saved me many times on getting a stripped screw out.
