will carb boots from a 750 fit a 550?

    will the engine side and or air box side carb boots from a 750 maxim fit on a 550 maxim?

    No. The 550 has Mikuni carbs with a 28mm diameter. The 750 uses Hitachi's with a 32mm diameter. However I have never tried to do this so therefore have not the parts in hand for a side by side comparison. But I wouldn't put any money down on ebay before I had.

    if anyone knows where i might find some air box side carb boots cheap... for a 1981 maxim 550... i'm very interested

    Agree with Blue on this one as I have done the side by side comparison between 550, 650 and 750 head side boots. As well as the difference in throat diameter, the studs are spaced differently.

    Now there is a slight possiblity that the airbox side boots will work. Possibly! The diameter of the hole in the airbox may be the same for those bikes. The difference would be on the carb side. But if they are the same then Yamaha only needs to manufacture one sixe air boot. I would measure the outside diameter of your Mikuni's and we can compare that to the Hitachi carbs.
