petcock or cards?

    my bike only runs when i have it in the pri. position is this a bad petcock or could it be my floats? Any advice would be appreciated.

    I would check petcock first, it is pretty simple component..

    I would check first to see that you are getting vacuum to the petcock. If you are then you need to at least clean the petcock and probably rebuild it. Not a big job, kits are available.

    Check the vacuum line to the petcock first. Make sure it is good and connected. Without vacuum, you can not run fuel in anything other than PRI in a properly working petcock. IF the hose looks good, then take the fuel line off the carbs (carb end not petcock end or disconect petcock end and attach a spare length of hose) and with petcock in ON, crank it and see if you get fuel flow. (catch it in a bowl).

    IF you don't get flow, disconnect the end of the vacuum hose from the carbs. Apply some some suction to it and see if you get flow then. If not, try a new hose. If you still don't get flow, then your petcock has issues.

    kt thanks i noticed my vacum hose was kinda crappy by the petcock and cut it back so it seems to work now.

    Cool, now get a replacement (longer)so that when you muck around in there, you don't accidently nock it loose then go crazy wondering why it won't run.
