Pulled my starter plungers tonight and polished the plungers and shined my flashlight down the plunger hole. Hole only seems to lead into the venturi and looked very clean. I did notice that the screws next to the starter plungers were all recessed (screwed in) different amounts. When the bike is cold and I choke it to start it, it isn't a real smooth idle. More like a trotting kind of sound. Don't these screws need to be in or out the same amount? I could screw them in until they seat and then back them out, but, I don't know how many turns as my Yamaha factory service manual doesn't specify. Thanks Yamaha!!

Can anyone help me on this one?

    Thanks again everyone.

Start with them all out 2&3/4 turns, then color tune or do plug chops to get the plugs 'paper bag brown', move the screws by a few degrees at a time, as you can go right past tune.

Thanks Wizard. Plug chops will probably have to do, but I've been mulling over the idea of buying a colortune kit. Bought a compression tester last week and a Carb sync gauge set to sync the carbs on my other bike (xj650 maxim). I guess a colortune would be the way to go.
