doing my first change on my maxim xj700. took both oil plugs out on both sides of motor. nothing came out but a drip...Kicker is the sight glass says full..{fool}..lol ...anyways can any body give me some feed back. I think it takes around four quarts of oilI bought 8qt though because I put car motor oil in it the 1st time just to see if it would run..now I know thats a no no now.so im going to run some right oil through first then change oil and the filter again.

Somebody STOP him!!! RIDZ ... you need to know HOW to do something BEFORE you attempt DOING anything.

Either you start READING-UP on the bike you are servicing ... OR ... you are likely to make a serious mistake and get that bike, "Foo-Bar."

    "Foo-Bar" = F.U.B.A.R. = F*%#@d Up Beyond All Recognition.

Ask what to do before you do anything ... Don't blame anyone but yourself if you get into a situation ... way over your head ... and can't bail yourself out!

GO BUY A BOOK. Read it! Get a clue about what you are doing ... so it doesn't seem like you are about to ruin the bike from attempting projects you don't know how to do ... OR, are having a bit of fun with us by yanking our chains a littlle bit.

Either way ... the situation isn't looking too good, right now. So I recommend you start doing things by-the-numbers!

    Number - 1

Post the YEAR - MODEL - and most importantly -- the VIN NUMBER of that bike ... so, that we ALL know -- for sure -- what BIKE we are dealing with!

Your next Post should like this:

    1983 Yamaha XJ750 JYA22R00XDA102814

What do yo mean both oil drain bolts on both sides of the engine? The XJCD shows one oil drain bolt on the front of the engine way down low beneath the oil filter.
Also, according to the XJCD you will need 2.5 liters without a filter change and 2.8 with a filter change. Which would equate to 2.6 and 3.0 us quarts respectively. On your coolant the owners manual says to fill the "radiator" with coolant until full. This is for the XJ700XN and XJ700XNC models.

Before anyone does or says anything that might complicate matters for RIDZ ... we need to know ... beyond a shadow of a doubt ...

    Year - Make - Model - V.I.N.

We're all wearing blindfolds until we know ... exactly ... what bike it is!

It would be advisable to suggest that, as you can see from a few of our members signatures, posting your year and model is a great assistance to help others understand what you might be working with. A VIN is of great assistance in determining this information as well. We'll wait for your reply Ridz, I'm sure you'll have it posted in no time.

The VIN Number is both stamped on the frame and written on a nomenclature "Decal."

Turn the handlebars to the LEFT. Look on RIGHT side of the Headset ... the part where the handlebars pass through the frame behind the headlight. The whole VIN Number will be stamped right on the RIGHT side of the headset, there.

Also, on the right side of the engine ... on a flat spot ... just above the largest cover is a portion of the VIN Number ... that identifies the Model and Engine in the bike. Get those numbers posted as soon as you can.
