Well now that I am waiting for my new tires I was thinking about changing them myself. The wheel is big but the tire is small well kinda. How many of you changed there own tires with no problem or should I just pay someone to do it which I would hate to do. I know the tire goes one way forward and the dot is even with the valve stem is there anything else I should know if I attempt this myself.

the dot goes at the heavy point of the rim, it may or may not be the valve stem

Because the XJ750 has cast wheels...and likes high speed, I opted to have the shop change my tires and spin balance.

Eliminate the slight wobble potential and you improve every aspect of making a 26 year old bike run smoothly.

I found a local place (brake & tire, not cycle) who did my rear tire for $30...$15 LESS than the actual cycle shop did my front tire for.

Look for a little mom-and-pop place, and have it done for you. It's not rocket science, but it's worth a little bit to know it's done right.

Looks like having a shop do the tires is voted in so far. I was thinking of using Dynabeads instead of weights not sure how well they would work on these wheels.

Dealer here does tires for $20 flat - bike shop got me for almost $40 with all the fees. I have not found anyone around here spin balancing either..

Your a lucky man Bill to have it done so cheap. Been checking around here and my local dealer wants $72.00 a wheel off the bike. I can get it done cheaper $35.00 a wheel but I need to drive 50 miles. With the gas spent for the car I would not be saving that much to be worth my time driving 50 miles. I didn't get the tires yet so I guess I will keep looking.

Wow we have 2 places not very far that will do it for $20 - didn't know we were so fortunate.

Hey bill here is another one for ya. My dealer says if I buy the tires from him he includes mounting and balancing. I bought online for BRIDGESTONE SPITFIRE S11 BW for $66.00 and $68.00
My dealer wants $158.00 each with mounting LOL you think he is doing me justice..Don't think so.

I can say I prefer to have the shop do it, easier on my back and it gets a good balance. I still swap tires at home (so does Schumauster920 now, right? Thanks bud!) but it can be a wrestling match without help.

I prefer having a shop mount and balance, but never again will I have them take the wheel off the bike to do so. 35 for install and balance, 54 to take the wheel off the bike and put it back on.... cost almost as much for the tire to get on than it did for the tire itself.

I agree with you. I am going to take off my own wheels and bring them in. I need to check the rear brakes anyway and to be honest I just don't trust any dealer around here. Heard to many horror stories from some of my friends.

Just did my rear tire saturday. Wasn't too much trouble. Dealer wanted $40 to do it if I brought the wheel and tire in. Best other than that was $25 if I brought the tire in.
