I might be able to get this parts bike. He said it was running when it was parked. What would you pay for it? I need the engine and trans to transplant into my bike. I'm just not sure what to offer for it. Please text me what you would pay for it to 609-346-9907 or email to WesleyJN1975@yahoo.com. Thanks for the help all.

That would depend on mileage and if you can do a compression test. Not much there - offer him $25 or $50

Not to disagree with what's there, but I'd be offended at that offer. I paid 250$ for a parts bike with no carbs and a bad engine because I wanted the tank and the front end... I was quickly able to recoup my money by parting the rest of it out... Granted, that bike was a bit more complete, but 25$ would be a total lowball, especially if there is a clean title.

On 2 wheels... just lost my hat.
if the guy needs a quick sale, 200 would be a decent offer. the pipes are in bad shape, but the forks, engine, etc look fine.

I paid $200 for my parts bike and everthing was there except the side panels. Actually the seat that is currently on my bike is the seat off the parts bike, so take a look at it and it will give you an idea of how good of shape the bike was in.

There really isn't much there. If it were me I wouldn't offer him more than $125-$150. That would be the MOST I would offer. Looks pretty stripped down. If all you want is the motor I would try going $75 if you think it is worth that to you and if he doesn't take it have him counter offer.

If the motor isn't siezed & comp' test is good, it must be worth 2 bills.

I would want to know why it was parked. Compression would have to test good AND I'd want to be sure you could shift through all the gears. If it was parked because 2nd gear is gone or the primary adjuster is breaking up and causing shift problems then you wouldn't want to use it as a transplant donor...

    $150 MAX after I was sure I wasn't just buying a heap.

But here are the facts I'm working off of.

From what we can see very little there
    Engine of unknown function
No mention of title ( so I assume none)
Since he is asking for what to offer no set price from seller.

If it has a clean title I agree it is worth significantly more. But for all you know he was given the bike.

No insult intended and I have used this method before. If seller won't set a price then you say "well given the condition I could offer you $25 - I know that's not much but not much left on this bike" he will reply gee I was hoping to get $200 - now you have a price and can negotiate.

Remember the question was what to offer not how much is it worth.

    I won this on E-Bay for $9.99 - - I was the only bidder.
More stuff is missing than yours, so I'd offer 25 - 50.

I agree with Bill, offer low if he just wants it gone he'll take it if he wants more he'll tell you and you can barter from there, you don't want to make him an offer high enough that he takes it right away or you lose the chance to get it for less, by offering a really low price you force him to set a starting price, ( that is how pawn shops do it!!)

Re: Need your opinion about this! - UPDATE!

Well, I got it. $30 and the compression test varied between 130 and 160 depending on the cylinder.

Way to go. Great deal. Compression numbers are OK but that big a difference could be a worry. See if you can get it running and test it again.

    Good find

Sounds like another $200 in parts will set you up with another bike!!

Carbs, tank, instrument cluster and a seat. If you play your cards right you should be able to source all of that for about $200.

You have to take into consideration that it had no tank, fenders, headlight, carbs, front brake, or gauges, and the exhaust is bent. There won't be much you can use or sell. It's basically a frame, motor, shaft drive, and wheels. I would offer $100-150, maybe go to $200 if you are confident the parts you need are good and everything else that is still on the bike is in good condition. Find out as much of the history as you can, including how many known miles are on the motor and how long it has been sitting and why. Make sure you get the title and any other documents your state requires to register and bike with mismatching frame and motor numbers. The motor actually looks pretty good in the picture. It looks dusty, but it looks like the paint is good which is a sign that it may have been treated well when it was running.

It had no title. I'm using the engine for a heart transplant into my bike. We tried to do that 2nd gear fix and it's just not the same. I'm gonna swap'em and ride. Then I'll have time, and a little more patience, to get the original engine and trans worked out.

Just the seat will run you $75+ in e-bay unless you get one needing a new cover which also runs about $75. Gauges $30+ Tank $50+. Carbs needing cleanup/repair $75+.
I paid $400 for my 82XJ550 Maxim which was all there and running (although not well). Between e-bay and Craigslist and Chacal I've put about another $400 in itto get it pretty much back to original condition and running right.
Of course since it sounds like you just bought it to get the engine/trans none of this really matters.
Too bad I have this time to kill on a Sunday morning (Raining out so no ride this morning).

I wouldn't transplant it into my bike until I solved the compression difference question; 30 between pots is a lot.

    Cylinders 2-4 had a reading range of 127 - 135.
Cylinder 1 had a reading of 160. Turns out it had a fair amount of carbon build up in it. We fired it up today and blew out the carbon and now it reads the same range as the others. It actually came out at 132.

I've heard - - "carbon is free compression".
That's for racers in stock classes.
Wesley, your engine will re-break in somewhat. If they are all above 130, you're OK.
