Hi. I just bought my first motorcycle (83 xj750 maxim) and I want to lower it. Is it as simple as swapping out the shocks or is there more to it?

I think you should be able to lower it if you get another set of shocks that are shorter than the ones you have. I wanted my bike to be higher so I put another set of shocks on that were about 1.5 inches longer than the ones that came on the bike.

The two common shock swaps are either a Honda Rebel, or a Suzuki Savage - both of which will lower it about as low as you'll want to go. You could also go rigid, using struts. I have both a set of rigid struts and Savage Shocks... the shocks have a housing that banged up, but they work fine. PM if you're interested in a purchase.
