Just started looking at my shop manual, and found where my fuse box is and it has no fuses, it has all the wires that go to the fuses crimped together :? 8O . The main, headlight, turnsignal ,and the ignition......
What is the best way to go about fixing this problem?
    Thanks

Order a replacment, blade-style, fuse box from Chacal. These fuse boxes are terrible (clips oxidize and break) and yours would have needed replacing even if the PO hadn't turned it into a fire hazard.

I'm not sure I'd ride it until that was resolved. Any problem you have could result an a much more expensive part being fried.

Oh it's missing the left and right forks right now so she wont be going anywear....:) That is a nice and clean set up there RiderXJ..
I did however get some in line blade style fuse holders and fuses, and my neighbor gave me some of his avionic crimps that are pretty cool to connect all the wires. I have them all installed and ready to go. The have nice rubber caps that cover them up which is cool. I picked up a batt today also so I will charge it tomorrow, and hope and pray that they disabled the fuses because they were lazy and didnt want to get a new fuse box, and hope it wasent beacuse there was a short in the system. I checked the wire harness for any burning and havent found anything so far. :D
PS: the previous owner road this thing a couple years back all summer with no fuses....with my luck I bet somthing is fried we will find out tomorrow! 8O

Bull, take all the fuses out before you connect the battery, then put one fuse in at a time, so if there is a short / problem, you can narrow it down.

I did that fuse holder 8 years ago. Unfortunately I wasn't a member of this forum at the time. I found it at "Pep Boys" but when I needed one for my 1100 they no longer carried that specific holder. I was able to order one from a local auto parts store. It's made by "Lil Fuse" It's on the pricey side but It was small enough for the area I needed to put it..
I don't think I have seen any pics of Chacal's holders.

Looks just like it although I think he has 4 and 6 fuse versions and have mounting tabs. I have a 6 on mine - looks nice.

Hey good advice, Before I got back on here and read your post I had already put the batt on the bike, no fuses blown. But my starter button or my starter relay is acting up, my starter button is only working intermitnly.
And there is a clicking noise coming from my starter relay when I hit the button.
I cleaned all the connections to the batt and relay, and it still does it, only other thing I could think about is I only let the batt charge for about 4 hours, possbly not enough power? only other thing is my bike only stays running with the choke wide open... other than that hooorah!!!!

Clicking is either - battery low, starter switch acting up or starter relay starting to fail.

Check your battery first - get a good full charge.

Ya it's not rapidly clicking, The starter relay looks pretty easy to change out if its bad.
I have the batt on the charger now and wont allow myself to be tempted to start her up again until she is fully charged.... Boy that exhuast smelled so sweet, been awhile since I have riden....

I am having this same issue. I have a brand new battery. I let it sit on the charger for about 5 hours. And I get like a couple clicks, and nothing. I didn't think about the start relay. I will look at that today after work and let ya'll know how it goes. XJbull can you update this thread if you found a solution that worked for you?

Well I also had my new Batt on the charger for 4-5 hours, and had the same issue.
I stuck it back on for another 4 hours and that seemed to have done it. I cleaned off the solenoid terminals with my dremel carbon steel wire wheel and stuck the batt back in and it started every time. I am going to clean my starter button and I read about Di-electric grease to stick in there to keep moisture and corrosion out.
At some point during the trouble I would hit the start button and nothing would happen, Im going to try to jump the solenoid with the screw driver just to see if I have a bad one just to be safe.
    Will update again later today.
    Update
I did the screwdriver thing to the solenoid and it started the bike up, does than mean my solenoid is going bad, or is it supposed to do that I forget?
Also when I hooked up my batt a few secds later somthing made a puffing sound then a weird smell. are there any inline fuses anywhere else on the bike that might have blown?
