Does anyone know where i could possibly pick up the 2 sets of bearings i need for the front end stearing of a 82 maxim 650. My bike sat in a garage on its kick stand (even though it had a centerstand) for a couple years before i bought it. And due to that the bearings are shot and i failed inspection.

headset bearings? or wheel bearings? often the headset off a similar bike will work, try matching them to other bikes or cross ref. them against other yamahas, there is a good possability they will match. it would be too expesive to re-tool the facory for one bike, therefore, the part # may differ, the diameter of the retainer ring and diameter of the balls themselves remains the same.the wheel bearings can be obtained the same way or by reading the #on the bearing and matchig it at the local bearing retailer,be sure you chek your bearing seats and races for corrosion,or you'll be doin it again. ride on bro! 8)

The nice thing about bearings is ... their sizes are STANDARD for a wealth of applications. The manufacturer buys bearings from a VENDOR. There is intense competition among bearing suppliers.

You can pull your old bearings ... look at the engraved numbers on the race; and get them from a Bearing Supply Outlet -- at a tremendous saving from what Yamaha sells in small, plastic bag with a Yam Part Number label.

I replaced ALL the bearings, front wheel, rear wheel inner's and outers and the headset balls for UNDER $45.00. All of them. Yamaha wants close to that kind of money for one side of the front wheel.

My headset balls were shot ... but, the races were fine. So, I bought new 1/4 inch balls from the Supply Outlet. Yamaha sells individual balls and gets huge money for a World Standard sized ball bearing.

The guy at the bearing supply outlet handling my order at the walk-up window thought I wanted 38-hundred bearings when I asked for 38!
When we finally got on the same page and the understanding was that I only needed a total of 38 ... he grabbed a small paper bag ... reached into the bin ... grabbed a whole handful and dropped them in the bag. Never counted them.

He just handed me the bag and told me that there were at least 38 in there ... (closer to 70).

The bag of bearings cost 4-bucks!

If you don't feel like messing around with greasing-up 19 bearings for the bottom and 19 bearings for the top of the steering head ... you can knock-out the race and go with some nice, new permanently-sealed rollers.
