I got the springs out, dust seal cover, dust seal, washer, and now i'm looking at the oil seal. Do i just keep hammering the seal by pulling on the tube back and forth like a slide hammer? I rebuild rack and pinions and the whole process reminds me of how they come apart, lol.... :?:

OK, I see I got to have tool to go through the tube and remove the dampener rod retainer. I can make one, but what size bolt is in the end of the tube?

OK...... Slow on the forums today, so I'll keep answering my own thread! I cut the handle out of a broom and hammered it into the dampener and was able to back the bolt out easily.

Looks like someone dug out the oil seal once upon a time with a screwdriver and scarred the sealing area surface. Not horrible, but even after buffing with a scotchbrite pad it still is pretty noticeable. Think I should mix up some epoxy and try to fill those tiny cracks?

Hi Trey....I think they say if you use a 19mm sparkplug wrench and put it on an extension backwards it will fit nicely in the hex head....and maybe JB weld for the repair?

Help! I got the seals and circlip back in. Trying to go back in now with the dampener. I cant get the dampener all the way down to the bottom so the retaining bolt can thread up. Seems like there is one or two things moving around the bottom of the tube that is preventing me from getting it down in place. Anyone have a suggestion?

So I see the little alum part goes into the inner tube from the bottom and the dampener meets it from the top. I'll get it figured out before the night's over!
