Am getting ready to do my forks seals, when I do them I want to replace the springs with the progressive ones Chacal sells. In one spot it says on my 80 650 Maxim, Ill have to just simply cut the spacer.....???....ok. How do I tell how much to cut and THEN! How does that change the amount of fork oil I use?

Thanks for any help you can give.

It should be in the instructions that come with the springs.

You might find a PDF of them on progressive's web site.

I looked at the instructions that came with mine for the 550s, it had a specific length for the Maxims (550 Seca needs no spacers.)

It also had some "generic" instructions including the fact that you want a 3/4" to 1.5" preload in most cases, once the caps are back in. If you measure the distance between the top of the installed spring and where the bottom of the cap will end up, and add an inch or so to that dimension, you'll come pretty close. (Make sure the fork is fully "extended" first.)
