I bought my X recently from a guy who decided to put in pods and different jets. Suffice it to say, it doesn't run right at all.

I'm ready to get everything back to stock with the original airbox, filter, boots, etc, I'm just getting conflicting information on the proper jet sizes for it. The pilot jet specifically.

I know the main jet is #105, but the Manual on the XJCD indicates #37.5 for the pilot, whereas parts catalogs commonly cite #35.

Is there a difference in jet sizes between the 700 and 750 versions? Does anyone know the correct size for the US 700 X model?

    Thanks guys!

The 85 take #35 and the 86 take #37.5 pilots, been down the same road with my x with pods.Put the stock air box on it and it ran so much better.I had #47.5 pilots and 120 main jets in mine with the pods,it worked but not as well as the stock set up.

jetsrus.com has the best price. (n151)are the pilot jet series you will need.$6.00 a jet compared to $20.00 a jet through Yamaha

Huh, you sure the '85 and '86 have different jet sizes? I thought they had the same engine and carbs: 700cc, BS33 Mikuni, etc.

I know you have the answer already, but yes, there is a difference -- the XJCD I'm looking at lists #35 for the 700, and #37.5 for the 750.

As for sourcing them, our Friendly Neighborhood Parts Wrangler (FNPW) Chacal stocks them -- and might actually be less expensive (for the aftermarket jets) than some of the other online sites.

Doesnt stock mine! darn him! I need two 36.5s for my XJ700. I currently got two 40 pilot jet in em! Keeps my engine cooler though. Stumbles a little from a complete stop sometimes.
    These jets are finiky work

Oh, I know there has to be a difference between the US and Canadian models (700 vs. 750), it's just that:

confused me because the same size engine was made both years, 700 in the US, 750 in Canada.

But anyways, #35 for the US? Yeah, makes sense. Thanks!

My Yamaha Service manual says the 85 and 86 700's take #35 pilots. The 750's take #37.5 pilots. The 700's were a little lean down low and with no adjustment on the jet needle(e-clip) they had a slight stummble down low.I raised my jet needle by placing a .030 shim under the e-clip witch got rid of that little stumble down low.
