2 men arrested in Ore. marijuana grow operation
    Advertisement

BAKER CITY, Ore. (AP) -- Authorities arrested two men accused of running a large outdoor marijuana grow operation on rugged terrain near the Snake River.

State police Sgt. Ty Duby (rhymes with doobie!) said Wednesday that the Baker County Narcotics Enforcement Team discovered about 3,500 marijuana plants. Detectives estimate that if the plants had been allowed to grow to full maturity they would have yielded about two pounds each. Estimated value of the marijuana would be $2,000 to $3,500 per pound, putting the total operation well into the millions of dollars.

I've always wondered what actually happens to all the money seized in LARGE drug busts. 10's of millions of dollars at a time. It is on the news one day and you never hear another word about what happens to the money. Surely it could pay off many debts owed by state and local governments. Even the smaller busts with 10's of thousands seized.

Mary J is a big seller ma'hn! Musta been some GREAT stuff to sell at 3k a LB! Or they're just bulls*&%^n
Weed they confinscate usually gets mass burned by the National Guard (Lucky guys..) Or sent for experimental use by the GOVT in Labs or CA for medical puposes.
I personally think it should be Legal. My bike is a huge statement of that :D It is a way better 'alternative' than the other stuff out there! Crack, coke, and Heroin do AWFUL things to your body... MJ is natural, and was probably here way longer than we have been. Might be a little slower, but at least we're creative.
    Anyone ever watch Half Baked?

Yeah, then there's the busts where 300,000 in drugs and $10,000 in cash are recovered. You'd think a big, well established drug operation would have more money. I think it goes in the trunk of the Sherriff's car.

Unfortunately, legalizing weed would hurt too many industries at once... For example: big pharma, textiles, construction, DEA (yes, it's an industry, too!)...
Big businesses spend a LOT of money on lobbying the U.S. gubnint to make sure that they don't get any competition from weed.

Plus, weed is *cough* bad for you! *cough* Haven't you seen Reefer Madness?

In other news.... Oakland, CA is the first to tax MJ. Let's see how it works out for them.

He's probably a reefer himself! Only poses as a GOVT agent so he can get his hands on the good stuff!
(Duby has had over 200 busts in the MJ world.. He's no joke)

as far east as you can get in michigan 43.027407,
when i was a LEO in a little oklahoma town not far from texas, our midnight shift seized about $48,000 in cash and another couple of tens of thousand of grass and cocaine. it was the biggest in the department's history...

the OSBI came down and too possession of it. about 3 months later the department got a hugh chunk of the cash and we bought new body armor for some of the officers, some new radios and a new patrol car. that money might have funded some new officers as well but i cant speak to that with any certainty...

it was a busy little town since it was on a couple of US hwys but off the interstate so there was quite a bit of traffic through there...
