Taking what I can find ...will a 81 midnight maxim engine fit into my 82 seca? And will my carbs work on it with proper jets and needles?

Maxim uses rubber mounts... The Seca uses rigid mounts. You would have to fiddle with the brackets to make things fit, but it's doable. Wouldn't hurt to get your hands on a set of mount bolts for the Maxim.

I'm getting ready to do the same thing with my Seca. I have a Maxim mill ready to go, just haven't had the time to mess with it -- currently wrenching on the 650.

Search around. A couple of folks here have done the swap. Your carbs will work just fine... AFAIK a Midnight engine is the same as vanilla, except for the paint.
