he made a left in front of me hesitated and went for it. i locked it up and crashed the asteroid bike. it was on my foot and gas was leaking out. i couldn't get it off but he got out and helped me. then he said "it wasn't my fault. i swerved to miss some kids" and drove away. there were no kids and if there were so what. he was turning on to his street. i found his house but i think a police report would not only mess him up bigtime but i'll bet it would cost me a load in insurence and stuff. i'm not sure what would be the best thing to do. i don't just want to feed lawyers and there's more to it than that. i don't just want to put a bundle into this bike. it will never be as cherry as it was. input?

Well, if you were in my neck of the woods, I know a couple of large Marines who would be more than happy to accompany you while you "discuss" the situation with this bonehead.

Unfortunately, the time to resolve that kind of situation is when it happens. I don't think you have any leverage on him, at this point. Not sure what you'll be able to do now.

That really sucks. I'm sorry to hear it. We have tons of divided roads and highways in North Carolina. That kind of thing... the start, hesitate, then GO type of thing happens a lot when people are trying to cross the median. It is very dangerous.

Sounds like it WAS his fault. I hate to agree with jvswan, but it might be too late to do anything about it now. You should've contacted the police ASAP if he just drove away like that, and you should've gotten his tag number to report him. You have insurance for one reason, to cover your bike, and that jerk has made it so that you can't collect on the insurance that you've been PAYING for. Your insurance company is supposed to cover you at the very least if it isn't your fault, and if your company hikes up your rates for something that wasn't your fault, change companies.

Your story kind of makes me angry about people like him....

I feel for you, brother. I got hit by a stupid little wigger in his mother's minivan last year. The moron just turned into my front end without a shoulder check. I didn't want to call the insurance because they would only give me the book value on my 81 XJ650 Maxim, which is about $400, and then it would be crushed. So I got $500 out of the punk instead, since he had no insurance and was sh*tting his pants. Then I repaired the bike with the help of the mighty Dwayne Vehrey. I've been told that beyond a certain age and mileage, the insurance companies won't fix a bike - unless of course it is a super low-mileage, totally mint machine and you've paid additional collision insurance on it.
Anyway, the most important part is that you're okay. You can always find another bike. Another you isn't available.
    thx,
    baz
