Hey guys,on my way to a bike rally in Cape Breton, bike ran fine for the first hour til I got caught in some rain.I could smell rubber burning and lost power to 2 cylinders. My first thought was a coil so I limped it to a coffee shop to let it dry out.
After 1/2 hour or so,the rain stopped so I decided to run it so it would dry out. After a couple of minutes it got full power back very briefly and died completely. It wouldn't start (just turn over) for about an hour, than started fine.It seemed to be working fine for about 30 seconds than died again and now won't even turn over.I got my father to come pick me up,but now I'm stranded at his place.Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You're on the right track. Coils, coil connections. Or another connection somewhere, like to the TCI unit. All of these bikes had the same "potted" coils, the plastic will develop hairline cracks over time which fill with dirt and you can't see them. Then when they get wet problems occur.

The other possibility is that you took a bunch of water into the ignition pickup cover (crankcase left) or another wiring connection.

If you smelled "burnt" then it won't be to difficult to find. Pull the tank and get a flashlight and start exploring. Disconnect the battery first in case there are bare wires somewhere.

Thanks Fitz.I'm going to go at it this morning and pray it's something simple that I won't need parts for.

If you have been leaning-on the Starter and now it's not doing anything, ... I'd see if someone has a Battery Charger ... and Charge-up the Battery.

While you are Charging-up the Battery:
    Check the FUSE!

Lots of juice in the battery and fuse is fine.I'm in the process of cleaning up my connections and trying to locate some coils just in case.I'm in a bit of a remote location without my tools so my resources are limited.
How do you go about getting the starter cover off? I took out the 3 allen bolts but there's not enough slack on the wire to get a good look at anything.

Cleaned up connections and got it to turn over but no spark to be had.Got a pm in to Chacal for some new coils. Is there anything else I should be checking before I start throwing parts at it?

I don't know about testing the TCI, but the coils should be 11K ohms across the secondary coil (wire to wire, minus the caps) and I think 3 ohms across the primary coil.
