no problem. a friend of mine at work has a XS750 special and I have done work to it, so I am quite familiar with the look of the wheels. I am quite fond of them actually.

So would Mikes XS have replacement calipers for it? These are pretty much....corroded lumps of stuff.

I guess I could go look, way hey!

I dont think replacing them is necessary... I would get a good cleaner that will remove the nasty from it and rebuild them.
it is probably just some corrosion that will come off with a good wire wheel on a drill.

Comparing pictures...looks like the seat may even be off of an XS, it just sits there on the bike cant latch down anywhere.

They didn't. The bike in helmet's pic is an XS1100 Special. That 4-cylinder 1100 motor was the original "Excess Eleven" and although similar, NOT an XJ. Take a close look at the pic, you can see the differences from the XJ family.

Looks like somebody transplanted a bunch of bits from an XS1100 onto an XJ650; some more successfully than others.

You'll be happy to know ...

That Bike has a Solid State Ignition.

    The Calipers are Cast Aluminum.
They will Clean-up and Rebuild to like Brand New.

    Nice Haul.
If the 2nd Gear is cool and Headset Bearings in good shape.
    You win Big-Time!

Helmet's pic is either an XS750 or 850 Special The valve cover on those have the rounded RH top ends.

The front end is defientely off of an XS, be it a 750/850 or 1100 Special.

It is the xs 1100 like bigfitz stated. Definately not the 750 or 850 as those are triples.

Rick, it shifts a lot better than my first one does (or did) evidently no broken return spring. And with that XS front end on it it feels more.....well...solid handling wise.

The shocks on it I dont think are original either.....they certainly arent the bouncy things my first 650 had

If it does NOT "Pop-Out" of 2nd Gear ... you got a DEAL!

I got Handlebars like those on my Maxim. Hate them!

They put 40 mph Handlebars on a Bike you rarely ride under 60.
