    Hello Folks,

I bought an '82 XJ650J Maxim for SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed), my bride, July 2008 for $400.00.

I "rode" it home and am now in the process of restoring it for her to ride. Can't wait to get it finished and running!

Just wanted to introduce myself, and say, "hi!"

I have been riding Yamahas since about 1976. I am currently riding a 1980 XS11SG. I also bought a '98 Kawasaki ZG1200 Voyager about 2 years ago, for SWMBO and me to tour with.

I am at the point with "Whole Lotta Rosie," SWMBO's XJ650, that I am putting the carbs back together.

PM'ed Chacal about the YICS tool.

It has been a fun, challenging and EXPENSIVE restore. I know I have spent somewhere close to or more than, $1200 in parts, tires, seat, etc! that does not include the orignal $400.00!

    BikeBandit is my friend!

Hope to connect with you good people here and on the road,

Thanks! Yeah, she is as good as they come! She has indulged my passion for bikes ever since we met in high school.

Now she is even riding! She saw the potential in Rosie, that I saw, when we went over to the PO's to look at her for the first time.

I have a bunch of pics of the restoring process, that I will have to post up one of these days...

Looking forward to good conversations with my fellow XJers!

Thanks, Bully! Yeah, these sites are an invaluable source for info on keeping these older bikes running.

Of course, I'm sure the bike manufacturers are not happy about them!

They didn't intend for us to keep these '80s bikes running for so long!

How will we ever buy the new hotness bikes if we keep these running?

I am really partial to these stylings, not the new sport bike vibe.

Of course, I say that but have been looking at the FJR, so what does that mean?

I have already blasted through all the tech stuff and found it all to be very helpful! Stupid float bowl drain screws...

I got lucky with mine FBD screws, they were a bit rusted but came out with minimal force, I feel blessed! :D
The old bikes are just like old cars you could work on them pretty easily, now the new ones you have to take them into get looked at cause of the computers!

Yeah, two of mine came out with a lot of WD-40 soaking, but I had to drill out the other two.

Once I drilled into them, the extractor bit right in and they came out.

    Amen to that!
