let me strat out with what i have.
1981 seca 750r. the bike has a bar mounted master cylinder off a honda. the brake system is in very good working order.
i did not even know that it was not the original until i had taken it to have a insurance saftey. they did not have a poblem with the set up except that the brake lever is a little lower than it should be in relation to the throttel handle.
Any way i had a bar mounted yamaha seca master brake cylinder sent to me but it does not mount up to my throttle assemble. screws in the way, as well as mirror mount.
I have accepted that i will have to switch right hand throttle and on off switch as well as master cylinder.
if anyone has done this, could you please tell me what type of bike you took it off.
thanks any help would be great.
p.s learning a lot on this sight changing fornt forks this weekend and putting on cafe bars once i get this brake issue sorted out will start a build page.

Maybe the switchblock that matches the new M/C you've got?? XJ650 is it?? You might need to change the wiring / connector block to make it match.

I put a Suzuki one on my XJ750. Had to graft the XJ connector onto it, but it works.

fatman, do you have a picture of your honda lever mounted right now? I want to see what you mean by the lever being lower. Usually you would just losen the M/C bolts and move the lever to the desired height.

I went with a maxim throttle switch when I also switched my M/C to one mounted on the bar. I currently have clubman's on.
    They look like these.

What type of bars are you going to use?

hi xulf13. i do have a picture i'm just trying to figure out how to attach it to the messeage.

i cant just losen the bolt and rotate it because it has a mirror mount on it and it hits the switch control not allowing it to move the 1/4 to 1/2 inch more that i need.

i am not sure what the master cylinder came off.

i had ordered used font fork tubes from cycletherapy and talked to them over the phone. I asked if the bike they were taking the forks off had the master cyclinder and they said they would throw it in. They told me that the forks came off the 81 750 seca the bike i own everything looks the same. just got them on sunday.

but as you already know and i have found out that year has the master hidden behind the headlight. So i am not exactly sure what it came off.
my seca also has dual front disks so from what i read on this site most others had single.

do you think a 82 maxim switch and master cylinder would work. i can get them both for 100.

i already have bought clubmans, i have checked out your build post yours is one that has inspired me to build the cafe. got alot of good ideas from you especially how you supported the cafe seat.

fatman, I think the maxim MAster Cyl and Switch should work. You will need new brake lines though, more than likely, or might be able to use what you have. But I don't know what your current M/C looks like to be sure. See if you can set up a photobucket account, it's free and fast and then you just insert your photo link on here and VOILA!

Figuring out how to mount my cafe seat was the hardest thing for me at the time. I'm glad it will help somebody make things easier perhaps. I can't wait to see photos of your build. :)

I got inspired by Ease and other bikes on dotheton.com

thanks xulf13, sorey for the delay in getting back just did two double shifts back to back. have to go back for another 9 in the morning just enough time to check messeages i will try to get the pic to you tommorow night.
in the mea n time i ground down the mirror mount on the honda mc and was abe to twist it into position a little better i hope its enough to pass the safety. i would like to get the bike on the road this weekend. I then will look at changing the set up.
I saw Ease build page to. what you guys did is what im going for.
did you end up changing the tank from the seca. I thought it looked good the way it was. I'm going to order the seat from carpy or another place i found cant rember the name but have the web site saved benji cycle i think. they have seat tank combo's for about a grand. first i want to see what the motor is like on the road. sounds good though. sourced a4 to one but not sure if I'll change that right away. need to get rid of the giant square box to.

Benjie's oh yeah, verrrry nice stuff there. But very expensive for my pocket. Maybe if I was doing a "from the ground up" rebuild. but nevertheless, really nice stuff on that site. I ended up sticking with the OEM xj750 seca tank, that's what i'm running. I have a spare as well that I'm loking into doing the POR-15 lining, prepping, and painting real soon. The one I have on right now is pretty sketchy, but get's me by. :)

hey Xulf13 ,just ordered the maxim switch box and MC off a member on the forum. looking at your picture the MC has a taiper on the end that lets the brake lever come up tight. thats what mine does not have and creating the problem. should take care of the whole situation now though. what did brake line run you. I see you have two line right off the MC. the current set up on my bike is one line off the MC then goes to a spliter that is between the forks under the headlight then to each caliper from there. still trying to figure out how to shrink my photos. can attach them but to big. checked out photo bucket I'll have to figure that out. I am what you call computer useless not challanged.

Fatman, the lines I'm using I got on ebay. They cost me like $50 or so. You can keep the same set up you have though. Just make sure that the maxim you got your MC from had dual rotors like yours. other wise it will work but the piston wont have the strenght to apply proper pressure per squeeze ratio. What I mean is, that per so many pounds of pressure aplied on the lever, the MC piston puts out so much on the calipers.

Don't worry about photo bucket you'll figure it out, just gotta take your time when you get some.

    Take care and later,

    Eddie

changed a damaged front fork today. finished grinding and painting the honda master mirror bolt off. got the horn working. put the cafe bars on but need to order shorter brake line now. going to saftey it in the morning. Should be on my very first bike ride by the end of the day. just got my licence last week. hope it dosent rain that would be a bummer. you can only ride in the daylight hours here when you have a beginer licence. you have to have it for at least nine months before you take a road test and get full licence, oh well that leaves the nights to build the cafe. The master parts came off a 82 maxim i dident even ask if it was dual pistion, but i think the are.

Join the 2 wires at the connector on the harness side.

SNOW? is the middle of August. is it still that cold where you live?
On another note, too bad you failed inspection. A good inspection place SHOUL tell you all the things you need to address before you bring the bike back. not stop at the first thing THEY see weong and send you home to later send you for another thing.
By the way did you get your brake light to go off? Hillsy's metjod should wwork, I did the same on mine when i had the huge stock gauge cluster.

are not to hard to get out. seem's like people say thats the hard part. had the front end of already bummer to have to do it again. the place says once i do it they won't even have to take off the trailer so should not be to bad.

Well here in NC (Raleigh area) all year except part of the winter. Like if it snows and the roads stay covered in snow for 3 days tops. I don't ride if it's below 40. I just don't have the clothing to ride when it's that cold and since it doesn't stay like that for long, I can't justify spending the $$$ for a few weeks of freezing temps. Here we get all four seasons so it's real nice to ride out here.

I can't wait to see pics of your bike.

i dont have a pic after the mirror post down, work well though.
i have recived the maxim switch box and mc. probley wont install untill winter though.
looking at seats . duck bill by carpy?

i saw a electronic gauge that was round and had everything the giant box has.
all the idiot lights tack spedo and netural lights as well as signal. i am having a hard time finding it again though.
    it was on you tube shown working;
    going to look into it.
might be as easy as switching wires. yeah i know im dreaming.

The gauges you've seen are probably Acewell ones (sold by Electrosport in the US) - do a search on Acewell and you should see a few installs over here.

I've got one on my ZX9 fighter and it's pretty good - does all the things you need and some more.

Wiring is fairly straighforward - as long as you have your XJ wiring diagram and you can solder you should be OK.
