Hello all. The standing handles on my bike are missing. Chacal has them, so they will go on my next parts order. I would like something to hang on to, when putting the bike on the centre stand.

I found an empty bolt hole, with a nut welded on. It is on a bracket on each side, on the seat subframe. One end of a handle might bolt on to this. Where does the other end bolt to?

Can anybody post some pictures of the left and right standing handles, and where they are bolted on?

Do you mean the grab rail? This is the aluminium "handle" that runs from one side to the other behind the pillion seat. It only has one mounting point on either side. If that's what you're talking about, I will get a photo of mine tomorrow.

Dunno if these will help since they're from the 750, but maybe. Sorry about the mount being blurry on the second one. Camera's broken and I don't wanna spend an eternity trying to get a good shot.

Hello Big Ross. See Chorca's (thanks mate, just what I was looking for) photos. They are the handles I'm talking about, which bolt on under the seat. Mine does have the pillion grab rail.

Thanks for the pics, they are clear enough. There is no front mount, near the shock absorber, on the 900. Maybe that end of the handle bolts to the shock absorber....

Here is a pic off my XJ750RL which should be the same as your 900 as it used the 900 frame. Front of handle does mount to the shock bolt. Just noticed your bike is an 88 so not sure if it was still the same frame or not.

    Hi railtrolley,
currently riding an '84 xj900 and having pulled an '88 xj900 apart, and closely looking at the Haynes manual, I,m not entirely convinced they came as original equipment.I,ve found that pushing down on the centre stand, whilst applying backward pressure on the handlebars and grab rail seems to work after a fashion. Cheers ,Murray

Thanks Jeff4995. That is exactly what I was looking for. The duck tail on your bike looks the same, so the frames may be too. Even down to the tabs that meet the side panels. I don't think the frame changed at all from the 1983 model. The fuel tank on mine has the hooks at the lower front for the black plastic air scoops, which aren't used on the 1988 model.

Hello Murray, good to see another Oz rider. I've tried putting the bike on the stand, using the rear grab rail, and found I prefer to lift it with my arm under the rear seat. It's seems easier lifting with my right arm straight. Probably just my technique, but I end up getting a dirty hand from the subframe and mudguard. The standing handles will also be something to hook ocky straps on to.

Drive your bike's back tire on to a scrap of wood, or a sandal !! and never strain yourself again. You could even tie a rope to a board to help snatch it out from under the rear tire.
