Oil Light coming on intermittently...

I have plenty of oil in my bike, 1982 SECA 750. As I am driving around, corners or breaking the oil warning light comes on. I hit the warning button to make the red light go off, and eventually the oil warning on the LCD panel will go out. It is a pain during the evening when it is dark and the red warning light is so bright. Is there anything that I can do to keep it from coming on all the time? Thanks in advance!

 

um, if the light is coming on at corners and braking, I would suggest looking at the pump.
sounds like your pressure might be low. when was the last time the oil was changed?
how high up the sight glass is the oil at?

 

Your Seca has a oil level sensor on the oil pan. My XJ1100 was having the same problems, I removed the sensor and cleaned it with some degreaser. It has not given a problem since then. You can remove it after draining the oil, there should only be a o-ring sealing it in. If a new o-ring is needed you can get one at the local hardware store.

Is the oil at the proper level? Hate to see a engine get trashed from lack of oil. Since the light comes on when the bike is in turns I would not think its related to the oil pump. Maybe the switch is going bad.

 

I have seen fuel pumps not work right when the fuel level is below 1/4 tank because there is a leak higher up and the full tank masks it.
thought maybe it could apply here.

 

The oil was changed about 300 miles ago. It is just above the sight glass when on the center stand, and not seen on the side stand. Sounds like I need to pull the oil sensor and give it a good cleaning...thanks mlew!

 

Timely question.
I noticed the same issue today on my '82 750 Seca. I did a hard acceleration to check how the power changes at higher RPMs. When it got over 6000 the oil light came on, as it dropped down again it went off. The oil level is correct.
It looks like the headers have to be taken off the access the sensor, is that true?

protomillenium, if you still have the stock pipes you may have to remove them to access it, as the crossover covers it I believe. I have a 4 into 1 on my 81 and it was accessible.
