    Hello,

I have been riding for 6yrs now and just recently purchased a 81 midnight maxim 650. The bike didnt run when I got it and I put it back together. I finally got the thing started and rode it for about a week, but now its not starting and wont even pop over. The bike has a vance and hines full exhaust and somebody has put accell ignition coils on it. I have put a K&N filter in it. When the bike ran it seemed to run really bad down low, but would scream up top without a filter in. Once I installed the filter it started to run slugish on topend.
Now all of a sudden it wont start and I have checked everything. Its seems that I am not getting spark to two of my wires. I am wanting to buy a set of coil packs. If anybody has a good set that they want to sell me call me at 937-509-3660. I need to get this bike on the road. Once I get spark and hopefully get it running again can anybody lead me in the right jet direction. It has 110s for the main. There are 50s and 195s in there as well. There are also hoses comming off the bottom of the bowls that run up to a plastic fuel inlet that is ran through the boot. Has anybody ever seen this setup???? I will try to post some pics. Any info will help. I know a lot about my R1 but nothing about the xj.

It sounds to me like the carbs have been rejetted for pod filters. This is just an idea but....... these bikes are tuned to be very lean from the factory and when you install pod air filters the lack of restriction created by the airbox leans the bike out too much. So you have to rejet the carburators to richen the misture. It sounds to me as though the PO intalled pods and rejetted the carbs and then reinstalled the stock airbox to sell the bike. Now the mixture is way to rich, hence the bike bogging down with the K&N filter intalled (too much air restriction). If this is the problem the easiest way to fix it is to purchase a set of pod filters and install them. The right way to fix it is to rejet the carburators to the stock settings.

How would you install pods when they line goes through the stock rubber boot going to the airbox???? I know it ran like crap and is way too loud with the vance and hines megaphone exhaust that it has. I need a set of coil packs because I have lost spark in two of my wires. I want to go back to stock coil packs. It has a set of Accel coil packs on it now. I have heard that these xj`s are natorious for the pickup coil and the coil packs going bad. I really love the way this bike rides and want it on the road quickly. My r1 is getting rode way too much because this bike is down.

Another question. When the bike would start originally it would spit oil out of the PCV tube into the airbox. Any ideas on why this would be going on?????
