Cut some of the mid section out and weld it back together?

I shortened mine by heating it with a butane torch till it was cherry red then, I put it in a vice and bent it (Yes it will bend!) at a 45 degree angle about 4 or 5 inches up from the bottom. Then I quenched it with cold water. I then re-heated it and bent it again about 2 inches up from the bottom at about the same angle then, re-quenched it with cold water. I was able to take off about an inch in height. Did this because I installed shorter shocks. Hope this helps. I found the ideas right here by doing a search of past forum posts and, I've been very pleased with the results!!

    Cheers

I bought some Suzuki Savage shocks, I think that they are 10.5 inches. I know that I saw a picture of an XJ700N with the same shocks and a photo of the side stand. The photo really gives you an idea of just how much you are shortining the stand.

Here's the pict that I used as a template.
