Before you blame the TCI have you checked to make sure it has power and a good ground to it?

Test for Power to the Ignition Circuit.

    3 Miniature Alligator Clips
    1 Foot of Ignition Wire.

    Fold the Wire in half.
Fold the loose ends to where the wire's bent in half.
    Strip both loose ends.
Strip the "Loop" at the bend.
Attach Clips to all stripped areas.

    3-Way Jumper fabricated.

    Open Headlight Bucket.
    Unhook Ignition Switch Pigtail.
    Jump BROWN -to BLUE

    Touch Loose Clip to RED
    Listen for Relay
    Or
    Neutral, Kill Switch Closed
    >> Try Starter.

I originally posted this a few weeks ago in the thread that's currently right next to this one in the forum, but I'll repost it here:

Take a breath and then write us a nice long post about what the current situation is, i.e. what works, what doesn't, what you've tried, what tests you've run and what the results were, etc.

For instance, do you get spark on any of the cylinders? (I ask this because the ignition system is pretty much entirely two separate systems - one for cylinders 1 & 4, the other for 2 & 3; even if the problem is in the TCI, it's unliklely for such a problem to bring down both channels).

Assuming that you don't have spark from either 1/4 or 2/3, there aren't too many places to look - as there are only a few things that will disable both systems.

Check that you do have +12V between the Black wire (ground) and the R/W wire at the TCI unit while cranking.

Check that you don't have ground (continuity to chassis) on the B/W wire of the TCI unit when cranking.

If the first test fails, you have a problem with fuses or the ignition switch.

If the second test fails, you have a problem with the engine stop switch, neutral switch, sidestand switch, or sidestand relay.

If neither test fails, your TCI unit may be just plain bad, or you're unfortunate enough to have two things wrong elsewhere in your system.

    Cheers,
    Paul
