750 SECA project

    Hi all! Last week I picked up a 750 SECA from a friend. After looking at a lot of the posts here I have decided to make a few changes. :twisted: The tank, seat, and a few other things were off so I don't quite have "before" pics. This is how it started out in mock up (I've changed my mind on quite a few things already).

    And a question...What triple tree is this from? my friend thinks an older FZR but I saw a similar tree on a bike here somewhere. I would like to put on a standard Maxim type tree with the riser in the middle for drag bars. I don't know if a new tree will fit those forks because of the dimensions.

    thats looking clean.....im going with somewhat of the same style..i cut the a$$ end of the frame off last night and im trying to figure out a battery box, a tire hugger, and a fender, o yah and the seat lol

    I have the same tree and forks and wheel on the front of my seca 550. I tired to put a 550 top on the forks, but it was very tight, like maybe the fork tubes are 36 vs 35mm of the orig. 550. Mine came with a pair of clip-ons but I may get a set of handlebar risers and add a drag/euro bar instead. I got the holes in the top of the tree welded shut so I can start over.
    Ill have to look back at my post with pics of mine to see what we decided - FZR600 seems reasonable.
    That is a nice looking bike for sure.

    I won an E-bay bid for a tree off of an 82 650 for a whopping 99 cents (12 bucks shipping). :twisted: The triple tree went on about as hard as the old tree came off so I'm not too worried. Quick and dirty pic taken 5 mins ago. I have a set of drag bars on order, it's just an old piece of broomstick in there for now for the move. Shadetree mechanic all the way! :D

    My friend and I will finish "cleanup" on the frame tomorrow and paint the rest of the bike. I had it like this just so we could move it from the basement (man I need a garage) to the shed.
    Here's another "mockup" pic of the bike before I changed the triple tree and painted the tank. I am also grabbing a few trailer fenders tomorrow instead of using the stock metal fender. I gained about another 2 1/2" on the forks by NOT using the clip-ons.

    I was looking for other clip-ons to try but I dont want to spend too much money. I think the ones that came with my 550 take up alot of space. I'm considering lowering the trees down on the fork tubes just enough to put the clip-ons on top. Though a riser and drag bars are still a possibility.

    You have done a fine job for sure.

    We got the frame painted and the tank stripped (totally reversed how it was lol) and went to TC for a fender. I hate to keep showing the same kind of pics so sorry in advance. I painted the rear rim and re-attached quite a few other things on Sunday but didn't get any pics. The carbs and handlebars should be on this weekend. I also need to fab up a seat pan and attack the giant pile of wires that will be cut down into a manageable harness.

    Okay, where to start. I don't have pics yet but I just swapped out the 4-2 for a V&H 4-1 because my buddy wanted dual pipes on his maxim! The front fender is off a Kawi LTD and is now black. The tank was covered with rubber undercoating, and I think I'll do the front and rear fenders in that as well.

    I got the Acewell unit last week and I am really impressed (just me off center for the pic, not the unit). The wiring harness was cut down to get rid of all the extra junk up front. The seat pan is fiberglass, I made a temp seat out of the old foam, and an old "leather" jacket. I will try to get pics of the newer setup tomorrow.

    All in all I'm pretty happy. I went down the road (cul-de-sac in a SMALL town) on Sunday and got a feel for how it will ride. I like the over all look so far and it feels good on pavement. More pics to follow.

    Jimbus that is looking great. How did you mount that Acewell? I have the same gauge and I'm still trying to figure out how to mount it correctly.

    gurgie, I drilled through the center of the triple tree and mounted the speedometer with the hardware that came with it. I don't think it takes away too much of the integrity of the tree (lets hope) so it shouldn't be a problem.
    I forgot to add the pic of the ignition, it sounds silly, but this is one of my favorite mods to the bike. I wanted it out of the way so it went under the frame in front of the tank. :D It is in there pretty solid, I can't get it to move.

    And you can see that I need to touch up my paint already. This is the reason I did the rattle can job on it this season, no biggie if it got screwed up, this winter I will paint it up differently.

    I love it. I have been thinking about moving my ignition down there as well. I might have to look into it now. Do you have any trouble seeing the Acewell at night. That is my biggest issue right now. The viewing angle isn't right and the backlight washes out the display at night.

    I haven't ridden at night yet, but sitting on my seat in the dark it seems to show up ok. If need be I have room ahead of my bars to bend the bracket forward. BTW the mount for the switch is a conduit hanger from lowes. http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=p ... lpage=none very similar to this one. It bolted right through one of the holes in the front of the frame.

    Dropped off the map for a while to get married (I know I know) :eek: In the time after that I got the bike up and ready for inspection. I decided against side covers, and ran a tin for my batt and electrical. Ditched the original mirrors for a bar end (bicycle mirror, waiting on e-bay shipment).

    I went back to the Harley headlight hood and it really brought the front end in tight. The old gooseneck I fabbed for it wobbled all over. All the lights work now and are bright as hell at night! I do need to add a spacer to the rear bolts on the front fender to bring it back level.

    I'm really happy with the bike as it sits, so it'll stay this way until the winter, then who knows. It rides great. I've put over 700 miles on it in the last three weeks and haven't run into any major hiccups. Thanks to all you guys on the site, I've had to search for info here more times than I can count.

    any info on the acewell gauge would be helpful, as is im looking at dumping mt huge square one. Also what front tire is that looks great. keep it comin

    also - your seat - its almost exactly what i want for mine. i shaved mine down, but now realize i was probably very conservative about it (i even cut most of the last half off).
    (im on an xs400)
    it even looks to go far back enough to cover where the fuse would be on my bike.
    you think i can snag a couple pics of the seat area?? :)

    $5 says you never checked the valve clearances; or properly set up the carbs. Spray paint is no substitute for truly tuning the motor.

    Seven hundred miles, huh? Get back to us after 7000.

    I'm going to suggest that you put a lanyard on your key ring that can attach to the bike. Reason being, when the ignition switches get worn, the key can come out while riding down the road. This has happened to a member before.
    I also have my key switch on the side, but my switch is angled up to keep the key in.
    Is the front rim smaller than the rear rim?
