Howdy,I'm Tim,from Ohio, home of the braindead (so I fit in just fine) :) Just got an 83 Midnight Maxim 750 to keep my 82 Honda Nighthawk 650 company.I've been riding since 1980,but amazingly this is my first Yamaha (I call her the Yama-Hauler).This is my 9th bike, but the other 8 were Honda's,half of those were 750's.Never had anything against other makes,it's just that every time I was looking for a bike,a Honda is always what was available in my price range (dirt cheap) .Found the Hauler at a show weekend before last, askin price of $700 caught my eye. After makin a deal for a mere $550,I rode her EXACTLY 66.6 miles home  according to the trip odometer, with no rear and barely working front brakes (told ya I'm braindead).Yesterday I got the back brake fixed, check out what fell out onto the floor when I pulled the drum off 8O

Today I found out the clutch cable's toast and plugged the front tire after pulling out a nail.Next'll be front brake pads, then changing oil, rearend fluid, and maybe fork oil.Maybe someday paint for the tank and front fender, pretty much everything else was just painted (had to smell it burning off the engine and pipes all the way home).I'm glad to be back on a 750 again,it's a real powerhouse.Guess that's plenty longwinded enough,so I'll sign off now

Welcome aboard. You will find this site to be a huge help in getting your new ride safe and ready for the road.

The first thing they will tell you is Welcome! The second thing they will tell you is to replace the front tire. You shouldn't repair any motorcycle tire and especially not the front tire!

Another piece of information you will need to know is that we have a parts guru with the screen name chacal who will either have in stock, be able to get, or will steer you to any parts you might need. Brakes, clutch cables, etc. all the way to some hard parts. He is amazingly quick to get the parts to you and he knows these Yammies up one side and down the other. A great guy too. He will help you any way he can. Prices are VERY competitive and he even has the factory manuals for at least some of the XJ's.

Glad to have you on the forum and stay safe my friend!

BTW I've had a Honda or 2 in my day also. I currently have an '82 CB750 that is SWEET! I need to adjust the valves, clean/synch the carbs and give it away! Got it for my son in law so I can have my XJ 650 back!!!
These little scooters are amazingly fast and fun to ride!

Hi Tim, welcome, a case of the dreaded delamination & some, lucky it didn't lock up on you, that would have ruined your weekend. Wiz.

I was gonna post some pics, but it looks like I somehow managed to delete all of em except for this one of it in the po's truck at the show where I got it.Just noticed I also deleted the pics of the rear brake carnage at the beginning of this thread  .Oddly enough,I didn't delete the pics of my other bike.I just don't get along with computers when it comes to pics.Maybe next time I clean her up,I'll shoot some new ones
