my 750 seca chop - tractor seats are comfy!

like the title says, this was a ratty beat to crap 82 seca 750. now it dons a modified frame, soon to have removable ammo cans, maxim tank, trailer fender, and yes....an antique tractor seat!

the seat hasnt been blasted and coated yet, it will be white silvervein, wich i think will compliment the white tins and black frame/engine.

i chopped the shocks about 2"

drag bars with pull back risers ~4"

MX twist throttle (no bs buttons or grabage, just a twist throttle)

the engine is hi-temp flat black, somewhat visible to the right in the background.

ill keep the pics coming as i SLOWLY find the time to work on it......it may be done for some snow riding at this rate! :roll:

 

PS- sorry for the crappy pic, its really dark with my sisters cell phone. ill get it out while its still light out and take some REAL pictures from a few angles so you can see the sissy bar better.

PPS- although i LOVE the look of an entirely blacked out bike, i felt it was beginning to be the "cookie cutter" bike build. so i went with gloss white

Awesome looking bike. I love tractor seats as well, I put one on mine and rode it for 4 hours strait and it was still comfortable. Even did the same drive the next day again the same story comfortable as anything. Waiting at red lights are not that great the sides pressed into my legs a little bit but Im riding more than stopped. Again looks sick keep posting the pics

here is tonights progress, not much other than the engine got bolted in and i sat on it making engine noises. then i fred flinstone rode it 100' or so down a hill to see how it felt. :lol:

I cut my tractor seat down so i could get my feet to the floor, i think it gives a better line as well. nood looking bike so far though

 

is a 82 and 83 the same

Do you have any plans for trimming the seat at all? Better yet, do you have another seat you can give to me? lol, looking good. Seat would probably look a little more at home on a fat tire bike, but with an inch or two off the perimeter, should look perfect on the XJ.

 

for now the seat stays as is! the only other ones i have are on tractors still, it was hard to find a decent one laying around.

right now the tire is a 120, i plan on stepping up to a 130 when i get it on the road, so that will help a little. also when i have the ammo cans on it will be more at home. the seat right now is still not as wide as the engine. i do think it will blend in better after i coat it white silver vein.

i guess you did cut it! is yours rigid mount or do you have springs under it?

 

Tractor seat = sick. I'd call you a redneck, but that looks just too cool man!

 

i'm runnin a damper from a mountain bike under it and a pivot at the front

 

additions:

-Hella 700ff series driving light for headlight
-my custom muffler painted and wrapped
-cut off neck reflector brackets and mounted amber LED running luights in their place. (in front of tank) i figure this is a safety feature that might help get me noticed rather than mowed down.





tonight i work on the wiring. not much tim eto work on it though. GOTTA HURRY! its getting cold......... :?

 

today i took the bike back apart and started wiring, almost done, had to stop to throw hay. i hope to have the bike done monday, depends on how late the wedding sunday goes.......

side note- when the oil filter is off, dont crank the engine to test the starter circuit. oil goes everywhere. i was overdue for a big mess, hopefully this counts. trucks make bigger messes when you have a slip up so ill take the bike mess any day!

 

I like the led lights idea. I would love to do that to my bike, what size lights did you use? Are they marker lights for a trailer?

 

What kind of risers do you have on there, and were did you get them? Oh yeah sorry, the seat looks bitchen to.

 

risers are from a yamaha bike that a local harley parts place was parting out. i dont know what year or model they came from. 80's yamaha.

the LED's are just 3" marker lights, i cut the bracket off for the reflectors and screwed through the plating on the frame. the forks almost touch, but they stop about 1/32"nd before hitting.

 

pardon the rough running lopey idle....in this vid i was checking my home made wiring harness. there were no air filters, carbs need to be tuned for the new exhaust, and the "choke" was not hooked up and probably needed.

HOLY CRAP it wanted to run! i got the carbs dialed in beautifully and the bike loves this exhaust. i couldnt get to wild and crazy on it, because i havent finished the front brakes yet.

for the record - the tractor seat is AWESOME.

ok well im in the middle of moving and cant find my camera cord to upload pics, BUT.........

1- my custom pipe is way to freaking loud. apparently my riding buddies didnt mind it, but it was bouncing sound off the ground straight into my helmet. i am going to try making a venturi in the end of the muffler to quiet it down a little and move the power down a few rpms as well.

2- tractor seat is beautiful. i did notice it has a cooling effect on my hiney.

3- the ATV master cylinder works GREAT for the front breaks. i do need to get the last remaining air out, its in the rail where the lines split on the forks. i think i am going to lean the bike on its side, open the "top" facing banjo fitting and try to bleed it out. just need to get the last little bit of squish out of the lever. other than that its a mod i would recommend to everyone with the cable over hydraulic setup from the factory.

4- chopped xj's can lift the front wheel while accellerating i think its the tractor seat.

 

any updates on this with some final pics and vids? Cool looking scoot.

i actually built another muffler, the auto glasspack was way too loud. i built my own glasspack, straight through, and the outer shell is just 2 1/2" pipe so it looks like a straight pipe.

i have been riding it as regularly as weather permits, the seat is fine unless you are in stop/go traffic. unfortunately that is the majority of my ride to work and my legs are taking a beating. im keeping my eyes open for a 2 up cruiser take off seat.

 

I am putting a 2up sporty seat on mine I think it looks good and should be comfy for the kids.

How about just cutting away/grinding down the sides of the tractor seat, so that there isn't a lip where your leg goes down? you could put a cool looking wave pattern in the sides, so that you don't have to just chope the whole lip down. Could be interesting.

 

i bet your going to have cold but in the winter and a numb but on long rides i bet its not a corbin lol

 

zookie- where did you get the lines to run from the mc to the splitter? ad what length.. we both have drag bars so it should be close

 

the master cylinder and lines are from my LTZ 400 (quad). it fits perfectly and the line went right into the factory yamaha "rail" where it splits to 2 rubber lines for the calipers. ill get some pics today, and post them up.

as for long rides, my ride to work is about one hour, when i am about 5 miles away i start getting numb. now i dont know if thats the seat, or my lack of body fat/butt because i can't sit in a lazy boy any longer without getting uncomfy. the seat does have a pleasant breeze, especially because i never put side covers on it yet so the wind goes right up there!

my wife is starting to express interest in riding with me on weekends, so im looking for a helmet and a 2 up seat. i had fun with the tractor seat, plenty of people snapped pics of me while in traffic, im sure its on youtube......so now its time for change.

ok, im going to finish this job then grab my bike, wash it, and take some pics.

 

on the bright side you didnt have to move to pass gas lol sorry just had to throw that in there . to bad you couldnt find a seat you can quick change when she wants to ride

 

Go with the sportster 2up seat. It fits on there really well and is comfy.

 

Yeah, or if you want to keep the tractor seat you could always just put a p pad on the rear fender.

 

i was going to try to fashion the same mount for the 2 seats, even if it is a PITA i wouldnt mind changing back from time to time.

this winter i'm going to sandblast the exhaust and black ceramic coat it. i was going to do it last winter, but the riding season came soon and i dont mind the rusty pipes enough to keep the bike off the road.

i dont have pics yet because my home computer has lost its brains, but i just installed a low profile sportster seat. it fits PERFECT. i can still easily put the tractor seat on for long solo rides

thanks for the link. i do have 2 ammo cans ready to go just need to fab up some mounts. im on the fence about it now,, with the sportster seat on there i may look for some leather bags. time will tell

they are much smaller than the ones in the kawi link. i think they are 12" long, 10 tall, and 6 wide. i bought them for $10 off ebay.
