    can anyone tell me if there is a way to test the tci module on a 1980 Xj650

    Hi Mick, has the electrical system on your bike been altered from stock?
    Yamaha don't produce test figures for the TCI unit, you have to test all the other components & if they all test out fine the TCI is faulty.
    Not much help is it. Wiz.

    Hi wizard ,ive checked everything to the best of my knowledge ,i have a book ,what i really need is someone near lismore ,northern nsw who has a xj650 that i could plug my tci unit into & see if it works or even send it to some one ,do you know anyone with a 80 model

    I just sold my '80 xj650 last week to a guy in Melbourne. :(
    Bump the post if nobody answers, I know there are some people about & there are some real smart electric boys out there, maybe PM micarl or polock. good luck, Wiz.

    See if you can open the TCI up and clean/reflow the solder connections. You might save the bad one, then again, you might not. Can't hurt to try now that you have another unit in place. Good luck!
