Hey, I got a free set of carbs from mcrwt. They're like 80 complete or better, I jsut wanna clean them if i ever have some free time. But what i need to know, does boiling lemon juice stink or really smell? Im going to dismantle the carbs and takes a bunch of pieces of the carbs at certain times to boil em.

also, how do you boil carb parts? like for how long and stuff?

I think you can just soak the parts overnight, it's got smell better than carb' cleaner for your dormettes.

well i know carb cleaner would smell it up, but I really just wants to disassemble the rack ,throw it all in boiling lemon juice, and cal it good, so long as boiling lemon juice doesnt stink

Best way to do it is to buy the gallon can of carb cleaner. It is in a gallon paint can and inside is a little basket for small parts. You can seperate the carbs and do one bank at a time. Let them soak overnight. Before I found this method I tried using a kittly litter pan and cans of carb cleaner...with limited success. With the gallon soak I have always had 100% success.

*Note: This is how I did carbs when I lived in the barracks when I was in the Navy...similar to a dorm room (not like a boot camp barracks).

i boiled my carbs in lemon juice and it stunk - i think it was the old gas/varnish coming off that was stinking. the smell went away pretty quickly after i stopped boiling, but while i was boiling it stunk kinda nasty (although i've smelled some pretty stinky dorm rooms, too)

I would also get the gallon of carb cleaner and soak your parts in there and leave it outside. If you don't take that outside, that stuff will get you, your room mates and the whole vcinity high as a kite.

I never heard of the lemon juice boil remedy.

Boiling the carbs makes a terrible smell. I would go with the soaking method, or see if you can blow air/WD40 through all of the small passages. If you can, clean 'em by hand.

I picked up a '81 xj550 seca and it needs some TLC (sitting for about 10-12 years); tried to start it, opened fuel to 'Prime' and the air cleaner box flooded with gas ... spilling onto the ground.
I think that the carb floats are stuck ..on hi? ...
Any ideas on how I can get them unstuck? Or do I have to take the whole carb assembly out?

    Thx for any help,

well create a new thread.. and these carbs are very finikey, and pulling them off is a must, clean every part! if it sits for 2-3 years they SHOULD be cleaned, 10-12 is a must
