On 2 wheels... just lost my hat.
after 440 miles yesterday, my body from the waist down is just about done making long trips.
So, I started looking for pads for my next long trip- probably in the spring- and I found ROHO has the best ratings.
    Anyone use them?

    Helmet,

I met a guy last week who is out of Gainesville fl with a gel seat. He thru his keys on top of the seat and said sit down. You can image my reluctance with just a pink thong on  but I took him up on it and the only thing I felt was a slight chill of the keys.... 8O

Seriously though he did have a chunky set of key and I didn't feel a thing, and then he picked it up and he had a bunch of nuts, bolts angle brackets under the pad and I felt NOTHING!! It's the same gel pads used in hospitals for burn & pressure sensative patients. A little pricey but amazing!! I'll track down his info and post it.

I know what I'm going to ask for at Christmas. I already said the furniture we just bought was our Christmas to each other, but the kids still need to buy me something, right???? I bet the husband's nether regions would like something like this also.

I'd be interested in what others have to add on the seat issue. Also, how difficult is it to modify an existing seat? I need my front lowered a bit and would like more of a step. I don't know if what is on there is original or not.

modifying an existing requires a recover and have foam taken out to replace it with gel, etc.

for the whole 2 blocks you have to ride, you should probably look into this

This guy (and I'm sure most dealers) can rebuild a seat, build a custom seat or you can purchase just a gel pad that is placed on top of the existing seat for longer rides...

The guys on the forum for my BMW K1200 LT constantly b**ch about seat comfort followed by "for what we have to pay for these bikes you would think BMW would spend the money to put a decent seat on the thing" blah blah blah! Apparently none of them have spent 2 hours non-stop on an 80's vintage Japanese bike. I find the LT seat very comfortable except when it is extremely hot.

The solution looks like bead riders http://www.beadrider.com/. Bead riders keep your keester sweat to a minimum and also improve rider comfort by eliminating pressure points.

There are numerous reviews if you google bead rider

BTW The bike on the beadrider home page is a K1200LT like mine. Just a leeeeetle more comfortable than the XJ
