PM Chacal or look in the Forums | Supporting Vendor - XJ4Ever section.

He has great prices, is responsive and knows more than I thought possible about these bikes. Oh yeah, and he ships via lightning bolts. =]

Have you done a compression test yet? Check that before you take it apart. It can help determine what parts need repair.

    +1

I was going to suggest a compression test followed by a valve clearance check before assuming blown head gasket.

Search the forum for Valve Clearance. This topic has been discussed in previous threads in great detail. Its a topic that comes up frequently.

Bigfitz has a posting "Airhead Valve Adjusting with pics"

I am currently repairing a bike where the PO concluded he had a blown head gasket, and had it replaced by a mechanic who tore the whole thing apart and put it back together never noticing that all four intake valves were bent. Needless to say, the new head gasket didn't help the bent valves.

Although all four were bent, #3 was much worse than the others. I mainly found the issue by feeding compressed air into the cylinders at TDC. For #3 I had air blowing back out the carb.
