Background: My bike has what I believe to be stock rectangular mirrors on stems. They don't move much and I've adjsuted them as high as possible on the stems. I'm 6'4 and noramlly wear a 58-60 jacket so both mirrors get a great view of my shoulder.

Question: Anyone have an idea of reasonably priced taller or farther out mirrors? I don't want bar ends as I just put new grips earlier this year.

We carry the XJ650 "Euro" style replacement mirrors that have long stems (but smaller, round mirror heads) that might do the trick...........

Not sure how "close" you are to being able to see...

Perhaps these would get you enough height: Slip Streamer Cast Handlebar Adapters

They're the windshield adapter for Slip Streamer windshields and the square handlebars.

Iwin, get Napolean Bar End mirrors, cut the ends off your new grips, and glue the skull accents over the adjusting bolt on the Napoleans.

You will NEVER EVER regret going to the Napoleans. They are stable, don't vibrate, never loosen up and most importantly they completely open up the world behind you.

I had them on my 750 Virago and will put them on my Maxim when I get it back from my son in law.

This reminds me of something funny. My buddy who also rides an XJ got a 650 at the beginning of the summer. We are pretty sure that in Colorado you need to have at least 1 mirror. Anyways when he bought his he ended up doing the longest highway ride of his life, in the rain...in rush hour traffic, with a mirror that was zip-tied to the handlebars and only gave him a view of his balls.

If the new long-stem mirrors don't work out, here's what I did for a different Yamaha. My XT600E had the same problems, but I ended up getting 45mm mirror extensions from www.dr650mirrorextensions.com (they were originally for DR650s but fit the XT600 just fine) as the mirror assembly on the XT600 (maybe the smaller XTs too?) are in multiple pieces - one that mounts to the perch and another that extends from the first and has the mirror head. Uses the same right/left-hand 10mm threads as all other Yammies.

    Those things are big bucks!

I had just looked at them to get LH thread adapters for my Seca, but they are as expensive as the mirrors themselves...

    Thanks!

I was googling for a while looking for a good price for adapters today, and didn't find anything I liked.

I had the same problem. My shoulder was the only thing I saw. Then I cut the stem and extended them. I used a 1/2 in copper pipe, it slides right over the cut off stems. Silver soldered it on. Finished it off with body fill, so you can't even tell where it was joined. Then painted it black.

Ok. Results. I ordered a set of the Extra long stem mirrors from Chacal. Ordered Monday here today. Fantastic.

I can now see behind me. They vibrate some but not enough to bother me and the hold where they're aimed.

Not the prettiest things in the world but the added safety of seeing behind me trumps all that.

I chopped the ends off my grips and put bar-ends on last friday, rode all weekend and I love them. I had the same problem previously, all I could see was my arms and shoulders. I also like the bar ends because they make the overall profile of my bike look much lower.
