Hi everyone. Have been looking for a project bike and recently picked up a 1981 XJ750 that had been sitting for a few years. A quick check over and a clean of the carbys and its running well enough to know the engine is sound.

Searching for parts I stumbled across an ex police 1983 model XJ750 with only 50,000 klms on the clock.

    Now I have 2 XJ's

But I have some starting questions.
The Wheels on the police special are not the same as normal XJ750's no spiral. They look the same as 650 turbo wheels. Also the front brake master is not remote mounted. It is certain from Western Australian police bike photos that they were like this from factory.
Also I have noticed a head gasket for sale that is listed both for XJ750 and FZ750. Are the heads interchangeable?

Hi darkfibre, and welcome aboard. I would think that the XJ750, being an air cooled motor, and the FZ being water cooled, that the heads would not be compatible.

After some more searching, turns out the gasket listed was for a XJ750XS 1986 which was watercooled.
    So no multivalve head options.

Welcome to another Aussie. And hello from a south east coaster. This is a great forum. The parts guru, Chacal, can get parts to you in only 8 days from the U.S.

Can you post some pictures of your ex police bike? I used to have an ex Victoria police BMW K100. Nice bike, but very expensive to keep on the road.
