    Hi ! I'm in need of help in determining if a part that no one seems to have or doesn't know anything about. The best way to show those who have taken the time to read this post what I am referring to is to send them to a site that will show a picture of the part in question. Please go to Dillon Brothers Motorsports site. The next step is to enter into the parts search diagrams Yamaha Motorycle 1982 xj650j and in the pull down listing obtain front brake caliper. A picture of the front brake caliper will appear and at the very top of the caliper will be a clip like part that has no part number or description. Question is does anybody have a spare one of these and is it a necessary part for the brake system ?

    I tried to follow your instruction to the site but could find nothing older than 1986. If you repeat your search and copy the web page to this forum we can link to the specific spot to see what you mean.

    Rechecked a different process of access and I think I found the page.

    After following down to the picture of your caliper I think that clip is the guide for the hose. If I'm right you could probably make one if you can't find it.

    I believe the clip you are talking about is number 14 on the bikebandit.com diagram. That clip is on your fork and should not have been removed when you took off the caliper. Look on your fork leg and you should see it on there.

    I think the part illinois is talking about is just above the caliper sleeve as shown in the brake diagram. It has no reference number in either site. Having not had the opportunity to do my brake yet, I just went by appearance. Maybe someone can verify this.

    JFSTEWART ---- You are right about the piece I am describing. I have no way of giving it a name but it appears to be used for holding the brake pads in place so they won't rattle. I hope some expert on this forum can set me straight on the parts necessity and where I might locate one . I think the part is in the Haynes manual. It's hard to believe that no one seems to have seen one of these. I did have one but during the process of restoring my 1982 xj650j misplaced it and it has taken legs. I wonder if this piece is just on the xj650j models ? I do appreciate all of your help and others on this forum. THANKS AGAIN !!!!! DON

    The Brake Pad "Anti-Rattle" (Clip, Pressure Clip, Spring Clip) ... No.-14 is officially named: SUPPORT, PAD.

    The un-numbered part is a Spring-loaded Clip that returns the whole Caliper back to its perpendicular "Starting Position" at the beginning of its Travel limit when the Brake Lever is released.

    Don;
    Did you try Bike Bandit? They too have drop-down online parts manuals.
    They list the parts under their own ID numbers though, so you can't search under the original P/N.

    I looked in BikeBandit's site as my second resource. They too had the same picture - no reference number. Now you know what it is, maybe Chacal can help locate a number or even has the part. If you need parts information he really is the wizard. Try PM ing him or e-mail at info@xj4ever.com
