I was driving home for work the other day in I-95 rush hour traffic (incase you dont know during rush hour we do 65mph like 6 inchs from each others bumper here in philly........its like nascar!), when i saw a guy doing 65mph on a crotch rocket TEXTING. Yes texting doing 65mph in rush hour traffic on one of the deadliest highways in this area. I just saw this guy riding with one hand on his bars and one hand on the tank for a while and i thought no way is this guy stupid enough to be texting.....then i saw him put his phone is his pocket i was liek what a freakin moron!

lol @ WIZ everyone does it but i refuse. i have seen the results and my wife wont take the damn thing off her ear long enough to REALLY concentrate on keepin the cage between the lines. everyone thinks that driving is second nature til you have to react in a split second to someone elses stupidity, which usually is a texter or talker not payin attention.
IT DRIVES ME INSANE literally whilst i am a passenger in her car,but more IMPORTANTLY the 12 SECOND RULE has kept my head in the game and saved my A** more than i can count. it carries over to driving in other vehicles because it has become a habit.

I hear ya Josua. Scares the crap out of me.
Did a 4 hour drive from Kelowna to Vancouver with a friend last summer, and it was her driving and texting almost all the way. We had 20 minutes of conversation, and I kept my eyes shut for most of the way. Wish we would observe the 12 second rule, not the 1.2 second rule...

On Oct 26 Ontario enacts a law prohibiting the use of any handheld device while driving. Unti Feb. warnings will be issued to offenders. All texting by drivers will have to cease or suffer large fines and demerit points. Hands free phones will still be permitted while driving. We had to send memos to our drivers (in our company) warning them and instructing them not to answer the phone if they didn't have hands free devices (while driving) or they will be personally responsible for the fines. To use a hand held phone, the vehicle must be pulled off the road safely and stopped.

It's sad that the government has to legislate what should be common sense.

Remember, half of the U.S. population is below average IQ.

Reminds me of a quote from I think George Carlin "think of how stupid the average person is and then realize half the people are stupider than that."

in NZ we have banned using a cell phone while driving as from the start of next month, $150 fine and 20 demerit points (hit 100 and loose your licence)

You can still use a hands free kit

I found this "Persons of average IQ (between 90 and 100) are not competitive for most professional and executive-level work but are easily trained for the bulk of jobs in the American economy. By contrast, individuals in the top 5 percent of the adult population can essentially train themselves, and few occupations are beyond their reach mentally"

i was thinking about IQ the other day and it occurred to me that it's possible for most people to have above average IQ.

    example:

suppose you got 10 people all of them have an IQ of 104 except one of them has an IQ of 74. then the average IQ would be 100, but 9 out of 10 people would be above average.

course, the opposite is also possible.

skeeter, your example is from too small a sample to get an accurate representation.

You need large sample groups to form a consistant average.

There is an e-mail going around about a guy in a car texting (looked like ironically a Smart Car). He crossed the center line to meet an 18 wheeler with no time for either to brake. Very graphic pictures of a guy litteraly cut in half.

If people saw those pictures, they may change their thinking.

I had a swerving cager on the e-way earlier this summer turn out to be some kid who was on his cellphone, wedged against his ear with his shoulder AND texting with both hands, while trying to steer with his knees. He was swerving worse than the chick plucking her eyebrows...

I can't wait until that new law kicks in here in Ontario. I'm sure the level of driving will improve. How often do you find yourself wondering "Hmmm, wonder why they're going so slow? Goose crossing the road? Cyclist trying to ride around a storm sewer? Nope, cellphone"

Today, coming home I almost rear ended someone. I came around a corner fast and they pulled out. Correction, rolled through the stop sign. I was expecting it though, because people assume they have time no matter what. Anyway, I had already let off the gas when I saw them moving and still had to jam on the brakes because they didn't even accelerate. Nothing, coasting at 30!. Then I could smell pot wafting out of the window, as they eventually hit 50 km/h (30 mph). I gave up being patient and pulled around. Wouldn't you know it, head down, texting, smokin' weed! No sooner do I get around that idiot and get about half a klick down the road to pull up on another yahoo going 40 (25mph)! and tapping his brakes as he's approaching the intersection about 50 seconds ahead!! Go around him and.... cellphone!

You are 4 times more likely to get in an accident when talking on a cell phone and 34 times more likely to get in an accident when texting.

The 12 second rule for our modern age is that hardly anybody can go 12 seconds w/o being on the freakin phone,no matter wtf they're doing :x

If it were up to me,texting or even just talking on the phone while driving would carry the same penalties as drunk driving
When you think about it,it's really the same as far as how it effects a persons ability to drive properly,so it only makes sense to have the same punishment

There was a biker in my area recently who was murdered because of the car "driver" behind him talking on the phone instead of driving.

The old man on the Gold Wing was pulling into his driveway when he was rear ended by the car. They say he flew about 150' before he hit the pavement

Naturally, the murderer got off scot free,as they always do

I say kill em all, before they can kill us all,FTW!!!!!!!!

WOW!! what a putz!! 8O Since Bills death I am hyper aware of all kinds of "distracted" driving cagers.  I have lost most of those bad habits and when I find myself engaged in one (trying to eat, dial the phone ect) I just stop look around and every time there is something I was not aware of before I started. 8O And I just picture that one day it might just cost a life!
Related to IQ... I live in Circus (Citrus) County Fl where the family tree is a plam tree!!... good luck finding a branch here! 8O
    Just stay aware and safe....

oh and by the way there is already a no phone law enacted in philly where i saw this guy texting trust me the law went into effect and people NEVER get pulled over for it, its like it should be on the books. I mean seriously people get pulled over 10 times more for not having their seatbelt on.

    I hope you're wrong...

Funny enough, just read a story today about a trucker who got a $300 fine for smoking in his rig. Part of our "Smoke Free Workplace Act"....

We've had the "no phone" law in effect for about a year...
I still see people on the phone on my commute......
They are enforcing it some, but it hasn't hit home yet....
I think they need to up the anty an bid a smack people a little harder....

At least there is "some" enforcement though....
