    Hummm.

When I pull away there is a slight hum in the rear drive. I'm just wondering is this normal for these bikes or do I need to go shopping?

If it needs replacing are these interchangable across a range of xj's or is it unique to the xj700? In other words can I only get an xj700 drive?

    Any advice greatfully received.

I have located another bevel box or rear drive for the bike. However I want to be sure before I buy.

I've got one vote saying this hum is normal, thanks jamings67 Anyone else out there who have noticed noise from their rear drive?

Took the bevel box off today and bench tested it with a drill, smooth as silk. However without a load I reckon this is pretty pointless. But there is little if any play in it so I'm thinking there may be nothing wrong.

Typically with differentials and bevels such as this, if they make a noise while driving, they are kaput. But there are exceptions.

The hum is only when I pull away, but disappears when driving along, so I'm thinking this could be a normal trait for thiese bikes.

I've checked the U-joint, which is actually new (to my pleasant surprise) and the play from the middle gear seems to be normal.

Make sure the Final had Hypoid and not a lame-o PO fill.
