Quick wiring question

I was out cleaning up the wiring on my new purchase, a 1982 Seca. There was some cobbling done around the fuse block. I was cleaning it up, so I went and removed the battery for now. I found a White w/red stripe (male connector) wire sticking out of the wiring harness just under the starter relay. I can't figure out what it is for. I ordered a shop manual, but it isn't here yet. I was just wondering if anyone knew what it is for, and where it goes?

This is a site where I posted schematics for 1981- 1983 550 Maxi and Secas. Page 2 & 3 are for the seca and page one is the Maxim. I didn't find a white with red on the schematic or on my bike at a quick glance but if you have the time to trace the diagram I'm sure you will find it. The diagram is in colour and the colours corespond to the wires on the bike. Hope it helps.

It is defiantly a white wire. It is possible the strip is brown, but it appears red to me. I couldn't find it on the schematics either. The closest thing I found was with with brown, and that was the turn signal switch. This is near the starter relay/fuse box area.

I am wondering if it has anything to do with the battery lcd on the dash. It looks like my battery is good, the the dash says battery all the time.

I have read up on it, and I got a printout of a bypass. It uses a 2Kohm 1/2 watt resistor and puts it between the positive of the battery and the sensor wire. I was just wondering if this would drain the battery if it sat for a long time. I will wire it into the fuse block on something that only turns on when the key is on... just to be safe.

 

The sensor circuit is switched by the ignition switch so there is no drain when off.

 

Have you got the sensor? if so it is important that it goes in the 3rd cell from the pos' end.

 

I don't have a sensor. I am just going to jump it. My battery has an extra cap on the 3rd cell you mentioned. I believe that it is there for a sensor if used, but it is not threaded.
