    Hi guys
I have a 82 XJ750 Seca with the electronic dash cluster.
My tacho has been jumping around lately and finally this morning it stopped working altogether.
Is there anyone who knows what i can check to possibly get it going again as i like knowing my revs to ensure i dont overrev my baby...
She is my only mode of transport as well and speedo cable snapped a while ago and no money to sort out just yet.
Am based in South Africa as well and we dont have many ppl who can work on the old bikes anymore.

Thanks in advance for your help

Check for loose or corroded connections. If everything is tight & clean, you may need an instrument repair tech or new tach.

Funny thing that...I had the same thing happen to me this weekend.
I am aware of only two things that may cause this issue. The tach connection/connector got loose or the tach meter movement burned out. Either way, you need to pull the cluster and open it up to access the mentioned points of interest. The tach has a: black wire (ground or earth), grey wire (tach input), and a brown wire (12 volt supplied). Use a multimeter to probe between the brown and black wire, it should be only an ohm or two of resistance (coil). Then check between grey and black, should see something but I'm not sure what. I'll have to pull one of my tachs out this evening to test it.

weird thing is it now works intermittently... Once i am above a certain rpm it flaps again. Gonna have to pull wiring apart and trace and check...
Oh well now no rpm or speedo and cable i had made is too long and no time to get it fixed at the moment...
    Woohoo
