Hey, everyone, How's it going? This is my first bike, and just thought I'd stop by and play 'show-and-tell' with it. Its an '82 550 maxim with just over 10k when I bought it about a week ago. I haven't had much time to work on it, but just cleaned out the carbs, and have a few electical things to work on, due to the previous owners lack of care on how the bike SHOULD be set up (lack of sufficient grounds, JB weld on fuses, etc.). I picked it up for a grand from my buddy who owns a custom bike shop here in Chicago. Other than the carbs and few electrical problems its in decent shape. The rear turn signals are cracked at the rubber, the front fnder is bent a little bit out of whack, and it could DEFINITELY use a bath. On the plus side, its got custom airbrushing on the gas tank of the "Killers" album from Iron Maiden. sweet :D And, since the guy I bought it rom owns Roman Custom Cycles and is a good friend of mine, he's helping me with all the work for his cost of parts (so far just a battery).

As far as plans for the bike...
I've seen some guys doing the Sportster exhaust swap and like the idea.
Turn signals are definitely too far out from the body...
    maybe re-upholster the seat?
flat black as much as possible (most of the chrome, plastic, engine, etc.)
    re-coating the wheels
I would like to lower the bike just a bit, maybe 2 inches or so
    THOROUGHLY clean the bike
    new air cleaners

I'm sure the more I learn, the more I'll want to do. I've already seen some amazing looking bikes on this site, hopefully I'll be able to join those ranks once my baby gets cleaned up a bit :p

Here's my baby the day I bought it :D

Nice bike! I just recently got into motorcycles and the XJ that I have now is the one I learned to ride over a year ago (friend sold it to me).

    Welcome to the site!

Sweet, I'm a bassist myself. Unfortunately, I don't get much time to play these days :/

But thanks for all the welcomes :D

Ha... I just read this post and as soon as I saw the suggestion of Wrathchild as the name I thought about when I used to play bass in a metel band. It was just a bar band and we did metal covers. But we did wrathchild a lot and I remember we would do it faster than the original and it would kill me.LOL Fun to play though.
I play drums in a band now and have always been a guitarist.

love the graphics, being a huge fan of "Eddie" myself wrathchild fits nicely,
my bike is called "Frankenbike" because of the frankenstein graphics I put on and because its built from a dozen different xj's
